Safety precautions
- Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before attempting any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by preventing any risk of injury from electric shock.
- Turn off the water supply at the outlet before beginning repairs to any appliance parts that hold water. Have towels ready for any residual water in the system when removing parts.
- Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts, pinching hazards and debris.
- Don’t test wiring with a multimeter for live voltage if you’re unfamiliar with how to prevent short circuiting when testing.
- When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
- Take your time and don’t rush while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries.
- Work in a well-lit area so you can clearly see and access the interior parts.
- Clear your workspace of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
- Check your user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions for your part or appliance.
- Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause injury.
- Wear safety glasses when working with chemicals, dust or cleaning large debris to prevent injury.
- If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time for any heating parts to cool down before working on it.
Replacement steps
Removal
- Remove the three quarter-inch screws located at the back of the machine to release the top panel.
- Pull back slightly on the top panel and lift it off the machine.
- Take out the three screws that hold the computer board in place on the console.
- Rotate the panel upward and use a small flat-head screwdriver to disconnect the two ribbon cables by pressing on the locking tabs and pulling them out.
- Remove the two screws that secure the console in place.
- Open the dryer door and flex the console toward you to release the tabs holding it in place. Lift it out.
- Remove the lint screen by opening the door and taking it out.
- Remove the access panel, held in place by two quarter-inch screws, one in each corner.
- Remove the bracket holding the lint duct by unscrewing the mounting screw at the back and the two screws on the top.
- Disconnect the moisture sensor wiring harness by using a small screwdriver to release the tabs on each side.
- Remove the door switch wire harness, which is a three-wire connector located near the front panel. Use a screwdriver to release the tabs and pull it off.
- Remove the front panel by unscrewing the two lower screws.
- Unscrew the two upper screws located behind the front panel.
- Loosen the two front screws about halfway, but do not remove them completely.
- Lift off the front panel by lifting it up and away, taking care to release it from the drum support rollers.
- Move the drum slightly upward to gain access to the belt.
- Pull back the idler pulley to release the tension on the belt and remove the belt from the motor pulley.
- Lift the drum and guide it out of the dryer.
- Remove the belt from the drum.
- Remove the tri-ring from the drum support roller using a flat-head screwdriver.
- Lift off the drum support roller and remove the lower tri-ring.
Installation
- Replace the old washer behind the idler pulley with a new one from the kit.
- Slide the idler wheel onto the shaft and secure it with the new tri-ring.
- Attach the new drum support roller by snapping on the first Tri ring and holding it in place with the second Tri ring.
- Place the new belt around the drum before putting it back into the dryer.
- Carefully position the drum in the dryer, so that the back of the drum rests on the rollers and aligning the belt with the black line from the previous belt.
- Make sure the grooves of the belt are facing down, and the colored part is facing up. The little silver tab on the drum should be toward the front of the dryer.
- Thread the belt through the idler pulley and motor pulley, creating a loop.
- Check that the belt is not twisted around the drum by giving the tub a spin.
- Angle the front panel into position, making sure the drum rests on the rollers.
- Lift the front panel and hang it on the top mounting screws.
- Secure the front panel by tightening the screws.
- Connect the moisture sensor wiring harness at the bottom and the door switch harness at the top of the front panel.
- Place the control panel by aligning the tabs on each end with the corresponding openings.
- Connect the wire harnesses and ribbon cables for the control board and secure them with screws.
- Rotate the control board assembly down and reinstall the mounting screws.
- Position the top panel by sliding the tabs underneath the designated piece and locking them in place.
- Reinstall the lint filter duct. Insert the lint filter back into the dryer and close the door.
