With some simple tools, the new hinge bearing part, and these step-by-step instructions, you can have your refrigerator doors working like new again in no time.

Tools and Parts Needed
- Phillips screwdriver
- Flathead screwdriver
- 3/8 socket wrench
- Duct tape
- Replacement hinge bearing (part # 5304507147)
Replacement steps
Before starting any appliance repair, shut off the power supply to avoid electric shock.
- Begin by unplugging the refrigerator from the electrical outlet or flipping the circuit breaker that controls the fridge.
- With the power off, secure the refrigerator door in the open position.
- Prevent the heavy door from unexpectedly falling off its hinges during the repair.
- Use strips of duct tape to firmly affix the door to the refrigerator cabinet.
- Apply tape liberally on both sides to securely hold the door in place.
Remove the top hinge cover
With the door securely taped open, we can now start disassembling the top hinge.
- First, use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws holding the decorative hinge cover in place. These are located on the upper left and right corners.
- Carefully pry off the hinge cover and set it aside.
Replace the top hinge bearing
With the hinge cover removed, you’ll see the hinge assembly and the old plastic hinge bearing inside.
- Take a flathead screwdriver and insert it into the gap between the bearing and the hinge housing.
- Gently pry the old bearing out of the hinge. Some force may be required if it’s stuck in place.
- Once removed, simply press the new hinge bearing into the hinge assembly, lining up the holes. The new bearing should click firmly into place.
Replace the bottom freezer door bearing
Now we can move on to replacing the hinge bearing on the bottom of the freezer door.
- Start by removing any food or shelves from the door to lighten it.
- Carefully rotate the freezer door sideways to access the bottom hinge. You should see a removable door stop attached with one screw.
- Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove this screw and take off the door stop.
- Insert a flathead screwdriver into the bottom of the hinge, the same way you did on the top, and pry out the old bearing.
- Press the new bearing firmly into the hinge.
- Reattach the door stop with its screw and you’re done with the freezer door.
Replace the bottom refrigerator door bearing
For the refrigerator door, start by removing the hinge pin that connects the door to the bottom hinge.
- Use a 3/8 socket wrench to unscrew and remove the hinge pin.
- With the hinge pin removed, you can tilt the door toward you and lift it off the bottom hinge. Lay the door on the floor or a towel.
- Just like with the freezer door, you’ll need to remove the door stop on the bottom to access the old bearing.
- Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws holding on the door stop, take it off, and pry out the old bearing.
- Press in the new bearing, reattach the door stop, and reinstall the refrigerator door on the bottom hinge.
- Line up the holes, insert the hinge pin, and tighten it with the socket wrench.
Reassemble doors
You’re in the home stretch now!
- Reinstall the freezer door onto the bottom hinge pin first.
- Then align the refrigerator door onto the bottom hinge pin as well.
- For the top, tape the doors into position again for safety.
- Align the holes in the top hinges, insert the bolts, and tighten them with the socket wrench.
- Reattach the decorative hinge covers.
