Do you have a Samsung refrigerator with a cracked or broken pantry cover? This frustrating issue can leave your fridge disorganized and make it difficult to access items stored in the pantry drawer.
The information in this article may not apply to your specific appliance model. We recommend consulting your manufacturer’s documentation or contact us with any questions.
What is it?
The pantry cover is the front panel that serves as the door for the pantry drawer compartment in Samsung refrigerators. It’s located in the fresh food section. Over time, these plastic covers can become brittle and crack. When this happens, the pantry drawer won’t stay closed properly.
Replacing the broken pantry cover with a new OEM replacement part is the best solution. This repair requires minimal tools and can be performed by most DIYers in under an hour.
Necessary materials
Here’s what you’ll need to complete this repair project:
- Putty knife
- Replacement Samsung pantry cover (part #DA63-03764A)
Safety precautions
When working on any appliance, remember to keep safety first. Here are some tips to keep in mind:
- Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before attempting any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by preventing any risk of injury from electric shock.
- Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts, pinching hazards and debris.
- Take your time and don’t rush while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries.
- Work in a well-lit area so you can clearly see and access the interior parts.
- Clear your workspace of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
- Never work on internal parts with bare wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
- Check your user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions for your part or appliance.
- Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause injury.
- Wear safety glasses when working with chemicals, dust or cleaning large debris to prevent injury.
- If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time for any heating parts to cool down before working on it.
- Take pictures or make a note of wiring terminals or other connections before disconnecting to prevent any problems with reassembly.
- When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
Preparation steps
Before getting started, make sure to unplug the refrigerator or switch off the circuit breaker controlling it. This will prevent any risk of electric shock while working on the appliance.
- Open both the refrigerator and freezer doors to expose the interior compartments.
- Remove the vegetable drawers from the fridge. Grasp underneath each drawer, lift up slightly, and slide straight out.
- Fully open the pantry drawer itself. Reach underneath and lift up to detach the drawer from the metal glides on the bottom.
- Carefully slide the drawer out and to the right to detach the left side. Remove the drawer fully and set it aside.
Now the pantry cover is accessible and ready for removal.
Removing the old pantry cover
With the drawer front removed, we can now take out the damaged pantry cover:
- Place the pantry drawer front face down on a table or flat surface.
- Take the putty knife and slide it under the bottom corner of the cover on the right side. Slowly pry up this corner, working the putty knife along the seam.
- Once unclipped, keep prying along the right edge to the top right corner. Detach the entire right side but don’t pry too aggressively.
- Next, release the long center tab along the top edge of the cover.
- With the right side and top detached, the rest of the cover can be removed. Gently pull and pry it away from the plastic tabs securing it.
- Remove the old pantry cover completely and set it aside. Now you’re ready to install the new replacement part.
Installing the new pantry cover
- Examine the replacement part and identify the three locking lips along the edges.
- Position the cover in place on the drawer front and insert these lips into the tab openings in the frame. Push the lips into place with your fingers.
- Go to the opposite side of the cover and press down firmly to snap that edge into place in the frame.
- Insert the remaining center tab along the top, again pressing down to secure it.
- Use the putty knife as needed on the corners to ensure a tight, secure fit all the way around.
- Carefully inspect the new cover and confirm it is properly installed in the plastic frame.
Reinstalling the pantry drawer
- Locate the two small hinges on the right side of the drawer. Insert these into the corresponding slots on the side of the refrigerator interior.
- There are two additional hinges on the bottom of the drawer. Angle the drawer slightly upwards and fit these hinges into the metal glides on the fridge floor.
- Press the drawer firmly into place, straightening it out so all hinges insert fully. The drawer should fit snugly.
- Pull the pantry drawer open fully to test it out. The new cover should move smoothly with no cracking or loosening.
Finishing touches
- Replace both vegetable drawers by lining up the glides and sliding them back into place.
- Close the refrigerator and freezer doors.
- Plug the power cord back in or switch the circuit breaker back on.
- Allow the fridge to run for 15 minutes and confirm it is cooling properly before returning any food.
