How to replace an LG dishwasher water inlet guide assembly
Steven E / Monday April 21, 2025
On an LG dishwasher, the water inlet guide assembly (part number 4975DD1001A) is responsible for directing water from the inlet valve to the dishwasher’s interior, allowing your dishwasher to properly fill with the correct amount of water for washing cycles.
Common signs that indicate the need for replacement include water not filling in the dishwasher, water leaking from the inlet area, unusual noises during the filling process, or the dishwasher failing to start a wash cycle due to insufficient water supply.
You can find a replacement water inlet guide assembly here. If you need other replacement parts for your LG dishwasher, just enter your model number at AppliancePartsPros.com to find them. Safety precautions
When working on any appliance, remember to keep safety first. Here are some tips to keep in mind:
- Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before attempting any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by preventing any risk of injury from electric shock.
- Turn off the water supply at the outlet before beginning repairs to any appliance parts that hold water. Have towels ready for any residual water in the system when removing parts.
- Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts, pinching hazards and debris.
- Don’t test wiring with a multimeter for live voltage if you’re unfamiliar with how to prevent short circuiting when testing.
- When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
- Take your time and don’t rush while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries.
- Work in a well-lit area so you can clearly see and access the interior parts.
- Clear your workspace of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
- Never work on internal parts with bare wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
- Check your user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions for your part or appliance.
- Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause injury.
- Wear safety glasses when working with chemicals, dust or cleaning large debris to prevent injury.
- If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time for any heating parts to cool down before working on it.
- Take pictures or make a note of wiring terminals or other connections before disconnecting to prevent any problems with reassembly.
Replacement steps
Step 1: disassembly
- Turn off the power to the dishwasher and shut off the water supply valve.
- Locate the lower access panel and remove the screws that hold it in place. Carefully pull out the sound dampening pad.
- Disconnect the water supply line from the inlet valve. Be prepared for some water to spill out during this step.
- Locate the junction box cover and remove the screw that holds it in place. Take note of the location of the wires connected to the junction box. Untwist the wire nuts to disconnect the wires.
- Use a flathead screwdriver to assist in removing the strain relief nut. Detach the strain relief from the junction box.
- Disconnect the drain hose from the sink or garbage disposer. Feed the hose through the cabinet to free it.
- Open the dishwasher door and remove the screws that secure the mounting brackets. Adjust the legs to lower the appliance by turning the shaft assembly screws at the front.
- Carefully pull the dishwasher away from the cabinet. Open the door and remove both the upper and lower dish racks.
- Use pliers to rotate the water inlet cover counter-clockwise to remove it.
- Carefully tip the dishwasher back so its rear panel rests on a blanket or towel.
- Use pliers to release the clamp securing the vent tube to the water inlet and pull the tube off.
- Slide the switch cover up and out. Use a flathead screwdriver to disconnect the switch wire harnesses and release the wires from the retainer.
- Remove the screws securing the bottom access plate and pull the plate free.
- Detach the water flow sensor connector. Release the clamps securing the fill, overflow, and vent hoses and pull the hoses off.
- Remove the old water inlet assembly.
Step 2: reassembly
- Install the new water inlet assembly by positioning the hoses under the base and attaching them to the appropriate ports.
- Secure the hoses with the clamps and connect the water flow sensor connector.
- Replace the bottom access plate and secure it with the screws.
- Connect the wires to the switches and secure the wires with the retainer. Slide the switch cover into position.
- Attach the vent tube to the new water inlet and secure it with the clamp.
- Return the dishwasher to its upright position.
- Open the door, position the water inlet fully, and secure it by replacing the cover.
- Replace both the upper and lower dish racks.
- Guide the electrical supply line under the appliance so its wires are accessible through the junction box hole.
- Gently slide the dishwasher back into the cabinet.
- Adjust the leveling legs if necessary and replace the screws to secure the mounting brackets to the cabinet or countertop.
- Feed the drain hose through the cabinet and connect it to the sink drain or disposer, ensuring the hose is elevated above the connection point.
- Position the wire strain relief fully in the junction box and secure the strain relief nut. Connect the wires using the wire nuts, align the cover plate, and replace the screw to secure it.
- Reconnect the water supply line to the inlet valve. Replace the sound dampening pad and the lower access panel. Secure the lower access panel with the screws.
- Turn on the water supply and restore power to the dishwasher.
- Run a test to check for any problems.
