Safety precautions
- Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before attempting any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by preventing any risk of injury from electric shock.
- Turn off the water supply at the outlet before beginning repairs to any appliance parts that hold water. Have towels ready for any residual water in the system when removing parts.
- Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts, pinching hazards and debris.
- Don’t test wiring with a multimeter for live voltage if you’re unfamiliar with how to prevent short circuiting when testing.
- When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
- Take your time and don’t rush while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries.
- Work in a well-lit area so you can clearly see and access the interior parts.
- Clear your workspace of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
- Never work on internal parts with bare wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
- Check your user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions for your part or appliance.
- Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause injury.
- Wear safety glasses when working with chemicals, dust or cleaning large debris to prevent injury.
- If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time for any heating parts to cool down before working on it.
Replacement steps
Removal
- Start by removing the lower screws that secure the bracket to the body of the washer to detach the top panel.
- Pull the top panel approximately an inch and a half backward to clear the stoppers.
- Remove the detergent drawer by pulling it out and pressing down on the center at the back to release and remove it completely.
- Locate and remove the two Phillips screws.
- Unsnap the front control panel by releasing the locking tabs that run along its entire length. Begin by getting them started and then pull the panel off.
- Disconnect the wire harnesses by untwisting the little holders and extracting the wires. Find the release tab on each harness, press it, and disconnect the wires.
- Lift the control panel slightly, lean it forward, and feed the disconnected wires through the hole. Once clear, completely remove the control panel.
- Open the washer door and remove the clamp that holds the gasket in place. Use a small flat-head screwdriver to carefully pry off the spring located at the bottom of the gasket. Lift the spring out of the groove, going all the way around the door to release the gasket.
- Move the gasket away from the front panel to create space. Reach behind the door switch and disconnect the wire harness from the switch by pressing the release tab and pulling it off.
- Close the washer door and use a small flat-head screwdriver to open the small access panel located nearby. It should come off easily as there are no fasteners holding it in place.
- Remove the screw that secures the trim on this panel using a Phillips screwdriver. Once the screw is out, the trim can be pulled out, allowing the drain plug to pass through it.
- With the trim removed, locate and remove the Phillips screw that holds the front panel in place.
- Remove the four screws across the top of the front panel using a Phillips screwdriver. Take out the last screw carefully, as removing it will allow you to lift the front panel off the washer.
- With the front panel removed, you now have access to the thermistor, which is located on the bottom of the tub next to the heater.
- Use wire cutters to cut the zip tie holding the thermistor in place. Release the wire harness clip and pull the thermistor out from the tub.
Installation
- Install the new thermistor assembly by sliding it into position and pushing it in securely.
- Reconnect the wire harness to the new thermistor assembly and secure the wires with a new zip tie. Trim the excess zip tie with wire cutters.
- Reassemble the washer by placing the front panel back onto the washer, ensuring it aligns with the three tabs. Avoid pinching any hoses and insert and tighten the four screws to secure the front panel.
- Reinstall the cover assembly by first putting in the screw that holds the front panel to it. Then, position the trim assembly and snap it into place. Feed the drain hose through the hole and secure it with the screw.
- Place the front access panel back on and snap it closed.
- Reach behind the door gasket and reconnect the wire harness to the switch. Pull the gasket out and attach it to the front panel, making sure it fits into the groove so that it can be secured with the spring clamp.
- Position the spring clamp with the spring at the six o’clock position. Stretch the clamp around the gasket, ensuring it is properly seated. Use vise grips to stretch the spring further if needed. Be careful to pull straight back to avoid detaching the gasket.
- Close the washer door.
- Reinstall the console by feeding the wires through the hole in the back panel and rotating the console into place. Snap it in securely.
- Reconnect the wires to the main wire harness by snapping them together and ensuring they lock. Reattach them to the wire harness holders.
- Install the screws that hold the soap dispenser body in place.
- Insert the detergent tray by aligning it and pushing the release lever in to slide it all the way in.
- Place the top panel back on, ensuring it is positioned slightly back from the front. Make sure the stoppers align with the cutouts and push the top panel forward to lock it in place.
- Secure the brackets onto the top panel by reinstalling the screws.
- Plug the washer back in, turn the water back on, and run a test to check for any problems.
