Safety first
Before starting any appliance repair, it’s important to take precautions to avoid electrocution or water damage. For this repair:
- Unplug the dishwasher from the electrical outlet or turn off the circuit breaker controlling the dishwasher.
- Shut off the water supply valve located under the sink or behind the dishwasher.
Replacement steps
Step 1 – Remove dish racks and rails
The dish racks need to be removed so you can access the inlet cover nut.
- Pull out the lower rack completely and set it aside.
- Lift up on the upper rack to disengage the rollers from the side rails, then pull the upper rack completely out.

Step 2 – Remove the outer door panel
- Remove the two Phillips screws along the top edge that anchor the dishwasher to the countertop.
- Use a 5/8″ open-ended wrench to disconnect the water line from the fill valve. Have your towel ready to catch drips.
- Loosen the hose clamp with a 5/16″ nut driver and detach the drain hose from the air gap or garbage disposal.
- Remove the three Torx 20 screws along the bottom edge of the door handle. Set them aside for reinstallation later. Remove the Torx 20 screws along each side and top of the inner panel.
- Carefully pull off the outer door panel by lifting it up and over the inner door hinge, then pull it away from the inner door. You can set it aside. The dishwasher will now need to be pulled forward enough to easily access the inlet.
Step 3 – Detach the touchpad control panel
- Carefully pry off the control panel with a flat-blade screwdriver.
- Let the control panel hang down while still attached to the wiring harness.
Step 4 – Disconnect the hoses and remove the old hose
- Use needle nose pliers to unscrew the cover nut on the water inlet housing. Pull the housing away from the tub and lift it up enough to maneuver the hose. The drain hose can be removed from the inlet housing to make this easier.
- Pull the drain hose out of the clamp on the dishwasher base.
- Twist and maneuver the old inlet hose to work it off the outlet ports. Have your towel ready to catch water drips.
- Inspect the old hose for cracks or damage. Replace it if it’s damaged.

Step 5 – Install the new sump to the water inlet hose
- Insert the outlet end of the new hose into the port on the drain pump outlet.
- Position the hose so it routes through the retaining brackets. This keeps it in place.
- Push the inlet end of the hose onto the port on the right side of the water inlet housing.
- Reattach the drain hose to the inlet housing port.
Step 6 – Reattach the hoses and housing
- From inside the tub, tighten the cover nut clockwise on the water inlet housing using needle nose pliers. Be careful not to over-tighten it.
- Replace the insulation on the inside panel.
- Carefully slide the dishwasher back into position and open the door.
- Replace the two Phillips screws along the top to anchor it to the countertop again.
Step 7 – Reinstall the racks and panels
- Replace the upper and lower racks on their respective rails.
- Hold the wiring harness out of the way and remount the control panel to the inner door.
- Working from the top down, reattach the outer door panel with the original Torx 20 screws.
- Make sure the latch engages and the door opens and closes correctly.
Step 8 – Reconnect water and power
- Manually thread the water line back onto the fill valve, then use the 5/8″ wrench to tighten it.
- Attach the drain hose to the air gap or disposal and tighten the hose clamp with the 5/16″ nut driver.
- Turn on the water supply and plug in the electrical power cord.
Step 9 – Test for leaks
- Run a full wash cycle to make sure no water leaks appear.
- Carefully check all hose connections and the water inlet housing area for any drips or moisture.
If you find a leak, turn off the water supply and power, then double-check the connections and retest until no leaks are present.
