Safety precautions

When working on any appliance, always keep safety first to avoid personal injury or damage to the appliance or parts. Here are some safety tips to keep in mind:

  • Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before attempting any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by preventing any risk of electric shock.
  • If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time to cool down before working on it.
  • Take your time and don’t rush while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries.
  • Work in a well-lit area so you can clearly see and access appliance parts.
  • Keep your workspace free of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
  • Never work on internal parts with wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
  • Check the user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions related to your appliance or replacement part.
  • Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause personal injury.
  • Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts and debris.
  • When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
  • Consider wearing safety glasses and/or a dust mask when working with chemicals, dust or a large amount of debris to prevent irritation or injury.

Replacement steps

Step 1 – Turn off the water supply and power

  1. Find the water supply valve for your refrigerator and turn it off. This will prevent any water from flowing while you have the line disconnected.
  2. Unplug the refrigerator or switch the circuit breaker off to prevent any electrical hazards while working on the machine.

Step 2 –  Remove the back cover

  1. Find the cover panel on the back of the refrigerator.
  2. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws holding the panel in place.
  3. Set the cover and screws aside in a safe spot.

Step 3 – Disconnect the old water line

  1. Find the white plastic water tubing coming out of the back of the fridge. This connects to a water line coupling.
  2. Depress the locking collar on the coupling and gently pull the tubing free.
  3. Use a towel to catch any water drips.

Step 4 –  Remove the left hinge cover

  1. Find the decorative hinge cover on the left fresh food door.
  2. Take out the Phillips screw and then pry off the cover.

Step 5 – Remove the door shelf

Open the fresh food door and pull out the bottom shelf. This will allow you access to the reservoir cover behind it.

Step 6 –  Remove the reservoir cover

  1. Find the small access panel on the left wall behind the door shelf.
  2. Take out the Phillips screw at the top.
  3. Use a flat screwdriver to release the locking pin on the side.
  4. Carefully slide the panel to the right and remove it.

Step 7 –  Detach the old water line

  1. Grab a towel to use underneath the water reservoir.
  2. Depress the release collar on the water line again while gently pulling it free from the reservoir inlet.
  3. Feed the old water line out through the hinge space.

Step 8 – Feed the new line through the hinge

  1. Feed the end of the new tubing through the open hinge space from below.
  2. Push the new tubing up so it enters the reservoir inlet port. Make sure the line is inserted fully until you can’t see the first marked band anymore.

Step 9 – Reinstall the reservoir cover

  1. Slide the reservoir cover back into position from the right side.
  2. Reinsert the locking pin
  3. Replace the Phillips screw along the top.

Step 10 – Replace the door shelf

  1. Put the bottom door shelf back in place.
  2. Hook the ends into the side brackets.
  3. Push down to lock it in.

Step 11 – Route the new line to the back

  1. From inside the fresh food compartment, gently pull the new tubing up through the hinge space. Use the provided clips to prevent kinking.
  2. At the back top, remove the end cap and insert the line into the prepared opening.

Step 12 – Reinstall the hinge cover

Place the hinge cover back on the door and replace the Phillips screw you removed earlier.

Final steps

  1. Turn the water supply back on and reconnect power to the refrigerator.
  2. Check for leaks around the new tubing connections. If any drops form, tighten the fittings.
