Looking for the right part? Enter your appliance model number below to find the exact match and get your appliance running like new again!
The cabinet roller assembly on a Whirlpool refrigerator consists of four rollers, one at each corner of the refrigerator. These rollers allow the fridge to be easily rolled in and out for cleaning and also allow for adjusting its height. Over time, these rollers may wear out, causing the refrigerator to stop rolling smoothly or produce a loud squeaking sound.
The good news is that this repair is relatively easy and should only take a few minutes to complete. So let’s get started and restore the smooth movement of your Whirlpool refrigerator.

What you’ll need

- 3/8″ socket wrench
Safety precautions
- Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before attempting any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by preventing any risk of injury from electric shock.
- Don’t test wiring with a multimeter for live voltage if you’re unfamiliar with how to prevent short circuiting when testing.
- When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
- Take your time and don’t rush while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries.
- Work in a well-lit area so you can clearly see and access the interior parts.
- Clear your workspace of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
- Never work on internal parts with bare wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
- Check your user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions for your part or appliance.
- Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause injury.
- Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts, pinching hazards and debris.
- Wear safety glasses when working with chemicals, dust or cleaning large debris to prevent injury.
Replacement steps
Removal
- Open both doors of the refrigerator.
- Remove the toe grill located at the bottom of the refrigerator by using a flat-blade screwdriver. Insert the screwdriver into the seam and pry it off.
- Close the fresh food door to access the roller cover.
- Insert a flat-blade screwdriver into the seam of the cover and pop it off.
- Open the doors again. Hold the cover on the right side with one hand and pry it from the top using a flat-blade screwdriver. Remove the cover.
- Close the doors and place wooden blocks beside the fridge.
- Slowly tilt the fridge to slide the wooden blocks underneath.
Installation
- Remove the adjustment screw from the front roller using a 3/8-inch wrench. Set it aside.
- If replacing the rear roller, remove the adjustment screw for the rear roller in the same manner as the front roller. Be careful not to lose the plastic washer and set it aside.
- Slide the hooks of the old cabinet roller out of the cabinet bracket and remove the old roller.
- Insert the adjustment screw into the nut in the cabinet roller bracket.
- Place the new cabinet roller in the bracket, ensuring that the adjustment screw goes through the opening in the roller.
- Insert the adjustment screw almost all the way and hold the wheel almost all the way up. Screw the adjustment screw in almost all the way, leaving it slightly loose for adjustment later.
- Slowly tilt the fridge and remove the wooden blocks.
- Place the fridge back on the floor.
- Open the doors and slide on and lock the collar of the cabinet roller.
- Install the toe grill by first attaching the bottom clip and then pushing the top one into place.
- Close the doors of the refrigerator. Plug the fridge back in and check that it is cooling.
