Safety precautions

  • Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before attempting any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by preventing any risk of injury from electric shock.
  • Turn off the water supply at the outlet before beginning repairs to any appliance parts that hold water. Have towels ready for any residual water in the system when removing parts.
  • Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts, pinching hazards and debris.
  • When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
  • Take your time and don’t rush while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries.
  • Work in a well-lit area so you can clearly see and access the interior parts.
  • Clear your workspace of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
  • Check your user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions for your part or appliance.
  • Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause injury.
  • Wear safety glasses when working with chemicals, dust or cleaning large debris to prevent injury.
  • If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time for any heating parts to cool down before working on it.

Replacement steps

Removal

  1. Open the dryer door and remove the lint filter by pulling it straight up and out. Set it aside.
  2. Remove the phillips screws securing the screen in place. This includes the second screw in the middle that holds the moisture sensor holder to the grille.
  3. Once the necessary screws are removed, carefully take off the grille, which will provide access to the screw securing the other end of the moisture sensor holder.
  4. Remove this screw and disconnect the wires attached to the moisture sensor holder. Take care not to let the wires fall back inside the dryer cabinet.
  5. Detach the moisture sensor bars from the holder by pressing in on the locking tabs on the back side using a flathead screwdriver.
  6. Push the moisture sensors through from one side and then pull them out completely.

Installation

  1. Insert the moisture sensor bars into the new moisture sensor holder. Hook one end of the sensor into the holder and push down to secure the other end. You may need to use a flathead screwdriver to slightly bend the locking tab out for a secure fit.
  2. Connect the wires to the new moisture sensor holder. The specific wire connections do not matter as long as the connection is secure.
  3. Position the locating pin of the moisture sensor holder into the screw hole and secure the holder with the screw on the other end.
  4. Reinstall the grille. The grille has a locating pin that should fit into a hole on each side to help with alignment.
  5. Once the grille is correctly positioned, secure it with the phillips screws.
  6. Place the lint screen back into the dryer.
  7. Close the dryer door and plug the dryer back in.
  8. Test the dryer to check for any problems.
