How to replace the suspension spring on an LG washer

On an LG washer, the suspension springs attach to the top of the cabinet and to the side of the outer tub. These springs help to stabilize the tub and prevent unbalanced or vibrating during the spin cycle. Tools needed

• Phillips screwdriver
• Flathead screwdriver
• Rope

Safety precautions

• Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before attempting any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by preventing any risk of injury from electric shock.
• Turn off the water supply at the outlet before beginning repairs to any appliance parts that hold water. Have towels ready for any residual water in the system when removing parts.

Replacement steps

Removal

1. Locate the two lower bracket screws on the top panel and use the phillips screwdriver to remove them.
2. Pull the top panel back about an inch to disengage it from the washer, and then lift it off completely.
3. Find the steam generator and slide it towards the rear of the washer.
4. Use the phillips screwdriver to remove the four screws securing the mounting bar of the steam generator.
5. Push back the mounting bar and move the steam generator out of the way.
6. Locate the spring safety clip and use the flat blade screwdriver to pry it out.
7. Place the rope under the hook of the suspension spring.
8. With both hands, lift the spring up and out of the cabinet mounting hole.
9. Slowly lower the spring down and remove it from the outer tub mounting hole.
10. Repeat the steps to remove the other spring, if necessary.

Installation

1. Take the new suspension spring and hook one end through the mounting hole in the outer tub. Make sure that the upper hook is facing the cabinet.
2. Place the rope on the spring and lift the tub up slightly.
3. Hook the spring under the cabinet through the mounting hole.
4. Pull out the rope and attach the spring securely in place.
5. Lock the spring safety clip back into position.
6. Repeat these steps to install the opposite spring, if necessary.
7. Slide the steam generator mounting tabs into the corresponding cutouts in the cabinet.
8. Install the mounting bar so that the steam generator tab locks onto the mounting bar.
9. Align the four mounting holes and secure the bar with the screws.
10. Push the steam generator forward to lock it in place and then secure it with the two phillips screws.
11. Place the top panel back onto the washer and slide it forward until it locks into place.
12. Secure the top panel with the two phillips screws.
13. Turn on the water supply to the washer. Plug the washer back into the electrical outlet.
14. Test the washer to check for any problems.
