Safety precautions

When working on any appliance, remember to keep safety first. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before you attempt any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by preventing any risk of electric shock.
  • If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time to cool down before working on it.
  • Take your time while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries. Rushing is the enemy of precision.
  • Work in a well-lit area so you can clearly see and access appliance parts.
  • Keep your workspace free of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
  • Check the user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions related to your appliance or replacement part.
  • Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause personal injury.

How to replace the lint screen door

Step 1: Remove the dryer top

  1. Turn off the dryer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Use a quarter-inch nut driver to remove the two screws located at the back of the dryer top.
  3. Gently pull the top back, slide it forward a bit, and lift it to detach it completely.
  4. Set the top aside.

Step 2: Remove the control panel

  1. Use a 1/4-inch nut driver to take out the two screws securing the control panel – one in each top corner.
  2. You’ll see two wiring harness plugs that need to be disconnected. Press down on the release tabs and pull the plugs out of their sockets.
  3. Lift the front edge of the control panel to disengage the mounting clips. Slide it forward and remove it completely.

Step 3: Remove the lint screen and screws

  1. Open the dryer door.
  2. Take out the lint screen and set it aside.
  3. Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws along the bottom edge of the door opening.

Step 4: Tilt the dryer back

  1. Place a wooden block under the front feet. This will keep the unit back to make your work easier.
  2. Use your 1/4-inch nut driver to remove all but the two middle screws along the bottom panel. Only loosen the middle two.

Step 5: Remove the front panel

  1. Remove the three 1/4-inch screws at the top of the front panel with your 1/4-inch nut driver.
  2. Lift the release tab and pull apart the wiring harness plug to detach it.
  3. With both hands, lift the front panel.
  4. Feed the wiring plug through the opening.
  5. Continue lifting the front panel high enough so you can detach it.

Step 6: Remove the mounting bracket

  1. Take out the two 1/4-inch screws to release the control board mounting bracket.
  2. Turn the mounting bracket sideways and use pliers to detach the retainer clip.
  3. Remove the bracket.

Step 7: Remove the top brace

  1. Lift the top brace piece and maneuver it out.

Step 9: Remove the lint screen housing

  1. Vacuum out any lint inside the bulkhead cavity.
  2. Set the bulkhead cavity aside.
  3. Use your Phillips screwdriver and 1/4-inch nut driver to detach the screws holding the lint screen housing assembly.

Step 10: Replace the lint screen door

  1. Use a utility knife to slice through the seal and separate the lint screen housing.
  2. Take out the old lint screen door.
  3. Attach the torsion spring to the new door.
  4. Wind the torsion spring once and fit the door hinge into place.
  5. Gently bend the door in half to insert the opposite hinge.

Step 11: Reassemble the housing

  1. Connect the two halves of the lint screen housing by pressing the tabs into place.
  2. Install the housing assembly back into the front bulkhead by aligning the screw holes.

Step 12: Reinstall the front bulkhead

  1. Slide the front bulkhead up into place and hang it on the side hooks.

  3. Reconnect the moisture sensor plug.

Step 13: Reconnect the wiring and reinstall the braces

  1. Attach the control board mounting bracket and secure it with the 1/4-inch screws.

  1. Hang the front panel on the support screws.
  2. Feed the door switch wiring through the opening.
  3. Lift the front panel into place.

  1. Slide the control panel back on.
  2. Reconnect the two wiring harness plugs.

  4. Set the dryer top in place, about an inch back from the control panel, then slide it forward so it lines up correctly.
  5. Secure the top with the two back screws.

Step 16: Test the dryer

  1. Plug the dryer back in.
  2. Turn the dryer on and run a short test cycle to make sure it’s working correctly.
