When your Samsung dryer suddenly stops working or acts unpredictably, it can leave you wondering what went wrong. Often, the culprit is the main PCB (printed circuit board)—the brain of the appliance that keeps everything running smoothly. Whether you have a gas or electric model, we’re here to help you diagnose and replace this essential component like a pro.

Safety precautions

When working on any appliance, remember to keep safety first. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before you attempt any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by eliminating any risk of electric shock.
  • If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time to cool down before working on it.
  • Take your time while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries. Rushing is the enemy of precision.
  • Work in a well-lit area so you can see and access appliance parts.
  • Keep your workspace free of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
  • Never work on internal parts with wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
  • Check the user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions related to your appliance or replacement part.
  • Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause personal injury.
  • Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts and debris.
  • When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
  • Always take photos or make a note of wiring terminals or other connections before disconnecting them to make reassembly easier.
  • Don’t test live voltage with a multimeter if you’re unfamiliar with how to prevent short-circuiting.
  • Consider wearing safety glasses and/or a dust mask when working with chemicals, dust or a large amount of debris to prevent irritation or injury.

How to test and replace the Samsung dryer’s main PCB

Here are the steps to access, test, remove, and replace the main PCB in your Samsung dryer.

Step 1. Access the main PCB

  1. Remove the two screws securing the top panel at the back of the dryer using a Phillips screwdriver.
  2. Slide the top panel back, lift it up, and set it aside.
  3. Remove the three screws securing the main control housing to the front and side frame using a Phillips screwdriver.
  4. Carefully rotate the main control to access the wires, making sure no bare wires touch the metal.

Step 2. Test the main PCB

LIVE VOLTAGE WARNING: For this test, the dryer needs to be plugged in and powered on. Please be very careful to protect yourself from electric shock, which has the potential to cause serious injuries. Don’t ever test live voltage if you’re uncomfortable using a multimeter.

  1. Plug the power cord back in or flip the breaker on.
  2. Set a multimeter to Volts AC (symbol: “V” with a squiggly line).
  3. Test for voltage by placing the probes on the black wire at Relay 1 and the brown wire at connection CN1. Check for 120 Volts AC.
  4. Set the multimeter to Volts DC (symbol: “V” with a dotted line).
  5. Test at connection CN2 by placing the black probe on the pink wire at pin 4 and the red probe on the white wire at pin 5 to check for 5 Volts DC.
  6. Move the red probe to the red wire at pin 6 and check for 15 Volts DC.
  7. If any voltage readings are missing, proceed with replacing the main PCB. If all readings are present, investigate other causes.

Step 3. Remove the main PCB

  1. Unplug the power cord.
  2. Take a picture of the wire connections for reference.
  3. Remove the screw securing the main control at the front of the housing using a Phillips screwdriver.
  4. Slide the main control forward and pull it away from the housing.

Step 4. Replace the main PCB

  1. Slide the new main PCB into the housing and secure it with the Phillips screw.
  2. Reconnect the wires.
  3. Rotate the main control back into place and secure it with the three Phillips screws removed earlier.
  4. Reattach the top panel by placing it about three inches back from the console, sliding it forward, and securing it with the final screws.
  5. Plug the power cord back in or flip the breaker on to complete the process.
