Safety First

When working on any appliance, always keep safety first to avoid personal injury or damage to the appliance or parts. Here are some safety tips to keep in mind:

  • Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before attempting any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by preventing any risk of electric shock.
  • Turn off the gas
  • If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time to cool down before working on it.
  • Take your time and don’t rush while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries.
  • Work in a well-lit area so you can clearly see and access appliance parts.
  • Keep your workspace free of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
  • Never work on internal parts with wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
  • Check the user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions related to your appliance or replacement part.
  • Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause personal injury.
  • Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts and debris.
  • When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
  • Consider wearing safety glasses and/or a dust mask when working with chemicals, dust or a large amount of debris to prevent irritation or injury.

Removal and Disassembly Steps

  1. Lift up the lint screen cover cover to gain access to the two screws.
  2. Use your Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws. If you have the type of lint screen that has the cover built into it just pull it out.
  3. Take a putty knife and gently release the locking tabs that secure the top panel of the dryer. Carefully lift the panel back.
  4. Locate the door switch wiring harness and disconnect it. Use a flat blade screwdriver to release the clip on the harness.
  5. Use a 5/16-inch hex head socket or nut driver to unscrew the screws that hold the front panel in place. Take note of any clips that may be securing the panel, and release them accordingly.
  6. With caution, pull the front panel away, lift off the clips at the base of the dryer, and set it aside.
  7. Press the idler pulley toward the outside of the dryer to remove the belt.
  8. With the idler pulley off the belt, just grab the belt and support the drum to pull it out from the front of the dryer.

Access The Gas Valve Coils

  1. Once you have accessed the interior of the dryer, locate the gas valve coils. They are usually situated on the gas valve assembly.
  2. Disconnect the wire harnesses that are attached to the gas valve coils.
  3. Locate the bracket that secures the gas valve coils and unscrew it.
  4. Slide the old coils off the shaft. When removing the coil with 3 plugs make sure the spacer stays on the shaft and doesn’t get stuck inside the coil.

Installation and Reassembly Steps

  1. Slide the new coils onto the shaft.
  2. Reinstall the bracket, and make sure to line up the small holes in the bracket with the coils.
  3. Reconnect the wiring to the coils.
  4. Reposition the dryer drum within the unit. Make sure it is aligned correctly.
  5. Reattach the belt to the motor pulley and idler pulley, following the appropriate path as indicated by the dryer’s diagram or markings. (Check your tech sheet or manual)
  6. Reinstall the front panel of the dryer by aligning it properly with the bottom tabs and fastening the screws. Remember to lift the drum up at the same time to get it installed properly.
  7. Reconnect the door switch wiring harness.
  8. Finally, lift the top back over and lock the top panel securely back in place.
  9. Reinstall the lint screen

Final Checks

  1. Before plugging the dryer back in, take a good look and make sure all the parts are aligned and connected properly.
  2. Once you’re happy with putting everything back together and giving it a good look, go ahead and plug in the dryer. Run a quick test to make sure that swapping out the gas valve coil kit did the trick!
  3. Give the dryer a full spin and keep an eye on how it’s doing. Just make sure it’s heating up enough and getting those clothes dry like it should.
