Safety precautions
- Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before attempting any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by preventing any risk of injury from electric shock.
- Turn off the water supply at the outlet before beginning repairs to any appliance parts that hold water. Have towels ready for any residual water in the system when removing parts.
- Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts, pinching hazards and debris.
- Don’t test wiring with a multimeter for live voltage if you’re unfamiliar with how to prevent short circuiting when testing.
- When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
- Take your time and don’t rush while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries.
- Work in a well-lit area so you can clearly see and access the interior parts.
- Clear your workspace of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
- Never work on internal parts with bare wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
- Check your user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions for your part or appliance.
- Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause injury.
- Wear safety glasses when working with chemicals, dust or cleaning large debris to prevent injury.
- If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time for any heating parts to cool down before working on it.
Replacement steps
Disassembly
- Open the dishwasher door and locate the mounting brackets that secure the dishwasher to the counter. Remove these screws.
- Partially close the door and slide the dishwasher side to side to free it from under the counter.
- Pull the dishwasher out by grasping the cabinet area, pulling it out a few inches.
- To remove the upper trim strip, pull it upwards.
- Use pliers to carefully bend the tabs out. Pry open the locking tab on one side and then remove the other tab from the slot.
- Place the part with the magnet under the tab and push it closed. Repeat this step for the other tab.
- Use pliers to bend the tabs back into place, securing the trim strip.
- Install the top seal by opening the dishwasher door and placing the top strip over the edge, ensuring the little flap goes inside and both sides are in place.
- Press the strip down firmly and close the door.
- Slowly push the dishwasher back under the counter and reattach it to the counter by securing the mounting bracket screws.
- Close the dishwasher door and locate the three screws at the bottom that secure the door handle to the panel. Use a Torx 20 driver to remove these screws.
- Open the door and remove the screws that hold the inner door to the outer door.
- Use a Torx 20 screwdriver to remove the four screws on the top of the dishwasher.
- Close the door and slide down the outer panel.
- Pull up and remove the attached touchpad. Release the control board and let it hang down slowly.
- Remove the outer door panel.
- Open the door and use a Torx 10 screwdriver to remove the two screws that hold the catch in place.
- Drop down the catch, pull on the tab, and disconnect the plug.
Installation
- Attach the plug of the new door lock assembly. The opening on the assembly should fit over the metal tab.
- Use the Torx 10 screwdriver to tighten the screws on the catch.
- Install the outer door panel by lifting the control panel, being mindful of the wiring, and bringing it up at an angle so the plastic fits into the door. Make sure the tabs on the top of the control panel go inside the cutouts in the outer door panel.
- Lift off the inside strip and place it on top of the hinges. Open the door and support it on the slides.
- Secure the door panels together by inserting one screw using a Torx 20 screwdriver.
- Secure both sides with the bottom screws. Note that the three screws on each side are the short screws, while the top one and the four on the top are longer screws.
- Close the door and install the three Torx 20 screws from the bottom.
- Plug the dishwasher back in and run a test cycle to check for any problems.
