What is the control board?
The main control board is the central computerized control center in your Samsung washer. It regulates and controls all of the major washing functions and operations. If you notice one or more washing features not working properly, like the display, buttons, water temperature controls, wash cycles not starting, etc., there’s a good chance the main control board needs to be replaced.
Safety First
- Always turn off the power by unplugging the appliance or switching off the circuit breaker before starting. This protects you from the risk of electric shock.
- Wear insulated gloves to protect your hands from sharp edges, pinching hazards, or debris.
- Take your time and work at a steady pace to avoid accidents or injuries.
- Make sure your workspace is well-lit so you can clearly see and access the parts you’re working on.
- Keep your area organized and free of clutter, and ensure children and pets are kept away from the workspace.
- Never handle internal parts with wet hands. Make sure both your hands and the work area are completely dry.
- Check your appliance’s user manual for specific instructions or safety guidelines related to your repair.
- Handle parts gently to prevent damaging the appliance or injuring yourself by using too much force.
- Wear safety glasses if you’re dealing with chemicals, dust, or large debris to protect your eyes.
- If the appliance was recently used, give it time to cool down before working on any heated components.
- Take photos or notes of wiring connections before disconnecting anything. This makes reassembly much easier.
- Avoid touching exposed wires or terminals. If you need to handle wires, use non-conductive tools or wear insulated gloves to reduce the risk of electrical shock.
- Use caution when tilting the washer back to access the bottom panel—it’s heavy! Have someone assist if needed and use boxes or blocks to support the washer in the tilted position.

Step-by-Step Guide
Removal
- Unplug the washing machine from the electrical outlet. Additionally, turn off the circuit breaker that controls the washer. Verify power is off by trying to run a cycle—it should not start.
- Locate the rear access panel on the backside of the washer. It will be near the bottom.
- Using the Phillips head screwdriver, remove the two screws securing the panel. Save the screws in a safe place.
- With the screws removed, detach the panel by pushing up on it. Set it aside.
- Carefully tilt the washing machine back to access the bottom panel. Have someone assist if needed. Use blocks or boxes to securely support the tilted position.
- Once tilted back, you can detach the bottom panel. Locate the release tabs and slide the panel downward.
- Remove the panel completely and set it aside with the rear panel. Place a towel beneath the exposed bottom to avoid scratching the unit.
- With the bottom exposed, locate the main control board assembly. It will be mounted to the side of the interior tub.
- Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws that secure the control board assembly to the washer cabinet. Set them aside.
- With the screws removed, carefully slide the control board assembly to the right. This will release it from its mounting clips.
- Once released, lift up the entire control board assembly and maneuver it out from the washer cabinet.
- With the board assembly removed, disconnect the wire harnesses plugged into it. Make notes or take pictures of where each connects.
- Also, unclip any wire clamps securing the harness wires. Completely detach all wiring from the assembly.
- Examine the control board assembly and identify where it connects to the motor control board.
- Use the small flathead screwdriver to pry and release the locking tabs holding the two circuit boards together.
- Examine the old control board and identify each of the wire plug connections.
- One by one, disconnect each plug by either releasing the locking clips or using the flathead screwdriver to pry them loose.
- Make sure all wire plugs are detached from the old board which can now be discarded.
Installation
- Reconnect each of the wire plugs to the proper connection spots on the new control board.
- Refer to any photos you took of the original plug locations. Each one is shaped differently so they cannot be connected incorrectly.
- Press firmly to ensure a tight connection. Listen and look for the plugs to click into place.
- With all plugs reconnected, mate the new main control board back to the motor control board.
- Carefully align the locking tabs and press the boards together until they snap into place.
- With the control boards reattached, it’s time to put the assembly back into the washer cabinet.
- Maneuver the assembly back into position, aligning the screw holes.
- Slide it to the left to lock the mounting clips back into place.
- With the assembly back in position, reinstall the two Phillips screws to securely mount it to the cabinet.
- Plug all the wire harness connectors back into their respective ports on the control board assembly.
- Also, reattach any wire clamps that keep the wires neatly bundled.
- With all wires reconnected, carefully tilt the washing machine back upright onto its legs.
- Align the bottom panel into position and slide it back into place until the locking tabs click.
- Finally, realign the rear access panel and securely fasten it with the two Phillips screws.
- With the repair complete, restore power to the washer by turning on the circuit breaker and plugging it back in.
- Run a test cycle to verify proper operation before washing clothes.
