Safety first
When working on any appliance, always keep safety first to avoid personal injury or damage to the appliance or parts. Here are some safety tips to keep in mind:
- Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before you attempt any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by preventing any risk of electric shock.
- If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time to cool down before working on it.
- Take your time while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries. Rushing is the enemy of precision.
- Work in a well-lit area so you can clearly see and access appliance parts.
- Keep your workspace free of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
- Never work on internal parts with wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
- Check the user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions related to your appliance or replacement part.
- Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause personal injury.
- Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts and debris.
- When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
- Consider wearing safety glasses and/or a dust mask when working with chemicals, dust or a large amount of debris to prevent irritation or injury.
- Turn off the water supply at the outlet before beginning repairs. Keep towels ready to catch any residual water in the system when removing parts.

The first step is to gain access to the drain pump area by removing several components. Follow these steps carefully:
- Locate and unscrew the two Phillips screws on the top panel.
- Slide the panel back about an inch, then lift it off and set it aside.
- Press the tab and pull out the dispenser drawer.
- Disconnect the hose from the dispenser housing
- Unscrew the two Phillips screws
- Slide out the housing, and flip it over to keep it out of the way.
- Unscrew the Phillips screws holding the control panel in place.
- Lift up the panel, turn it towards yourself, and disengage the bottom clips.
- Carefully disconnect all wire plugs and harnesses attached to the control panel, then set it aside.
- Gently peel up the boot seal
- Then use the flat-blade screwdriver to pry out the spring clamp at the bottom.
- Locate and remove the two Phillips screws holding the door lock assembly in place.
- Unscrew the four Phillips screws at the top of the front panel.
- Push down the tab to open the door
- Release the panel from the hinges at the bottom.
- Tilt the panel towards you and lift it off, setting it aside.
With these components removed, you should now have clear access to the drain pump area.
Step 2: Removing the Old Drain Pump
Now that you’ve gained access to the drain pump, it’s time to remove the old assembly. Here’s how:
- Place a towel on the floor to catch any spills, and position a container beneath the drain hoses.
- Remove the cap from one of the drain hoses and allow any remaining water to drain into the container.
- Locate the two Phillips screws on the front of the drain pump assembly.
- Unscrew these to release the pump from its mounting bracket.
- Carefully squeeze and slide the clamps to disconnect the drain hoses from the pump.
- Locate the wire plug connecting the pump motor to the washer’s wiring harness and unplug it.
- With the mounting screws, hoses, and wire plug disconnected, you should now be able to remove the old drain pump assembly from the washer.
Step 3: Install the new drain pump
With the old drain pump removed, it’s time to install the new one. Follow these steps carefully:
- Locate the wire plug on the new drain pump motor and connect it to the corresponding plug on the washer’s wiring harness.
- Carefully slide the new drain pump assembly into place, ensuring it is properly seated and aligned with the mounting bracket.
- Once the new pump is in position, secure it by reinstalling the two Phillips mounting screws.
- Slide each of the drain hoses onto their respective ports on the new pump. Make sure they are fully inserted and seated properly.
- Using the pliers, tighten the clamps around each of the drain hoses to ensure a secure, leak-free connection.
With the new drain pump installed and all connections secure, you’re ready to reassemble the washer.
Step 4: Reassemble the washer
Now that the new drain pump is in place, it’s time to put the washer back together. Reverse the steps from the disassembly process:
- Position the front panel and align it with the hinges at the bottom.
- Tilt it towards the washer and lower it into place, ensuring the top tabs lock in place.
- Secure the panel with the four Phillips screws at the top.
- Align the door lock assembly and secure it with the two Phillips screws.
- Carefully reinstall the boot seal around the door opening, ensuring it is properly seated.
- Position the spring clamp at the bottom and use the flat-blade screwdriver to lock it into the groove of the seal.
- Plug in all the wire harnesses and connectors to the control panel.
- Position the panel and engage the bottom clips, then secure it with the Phillips screws.
- Slide the dispenser housing back into place and secure it with the two Phillips screws.
- Reconnect the hose to the housing, then reinstall the dispenser drawer.
- Slide the top panel back into position, about an inch from the front panel.
- Slide it forward to lock it in place and secure it with the two Phillips screws.
With all components reassembled, your Samsung front load washer is now ready for operation.
