Wayne for Model Number Gs6shaxmt00

My ice maker stopped working. When I removed the ice maker, I noticed the ice cubes were frozen to the ice mold and the ejection fingers were laying on top of the ice cubes. I also found an ice sheet under the ice mold near the control module. After I defrosted the ice maker and removed the ice I replaced it in the freezer. The ice maker ejectors rotate but no water fills the mold. The Infra red device appears to checkout. Blinks twice then one second pause when the door is open. When I close the emitter module door the light is steady. I also checked for ice in the water fill nozzle. Did not appear to be frozen. Any suggestions recommendations?

Answer

Hello Wayne, This sounds like you have either lost water pressure to the unit or the water inlet valve has failed. There is also the possibility that the contacts inside the icemaker have burned, causing them not to make contact when they are closed. This is easy to test for with a test meter. Simply remove the wires from the icemaker water inlet valve and put the voltage meter accross these two wires. Cycle the icemaker and watch the meter. If the unit goes all the way through the cycle and stops, but you never see the 120Vac pop up for the required 7 seconds, the icemaker has bad contacts inside it and should be replaced. If you see the voltage pop up for the 7 seconds, the water inlet valve is bad. The valve can still open with no water pressure to it so it is still important to make sure as I have even found the water shut-off to the unit turned off under the sink and behind the unit. Let us know if we can assist further.
