On a Samsung dishwasher, the case break assembly is responsible for controlling the water flow and preventing backflow, allowing your dishwasher to properly drain water.

Common signs that indicate the need for replacement include water not draining or draining slowly from the dishwasher, leaks around the case break assembly, and abnormal noises during the drain cycle.

  • Replacement part (make sure it’s compatible with your model before installing)
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • 5/8 in wrench
  • 9/64 in hex screwdriver
  • Pliers
  • Towels

The specific tools required may vary depending on the model of your appliance and the type of fasteners used on it.

Part compatibility

Before starting replacement of any parts, check that you have an OEM part that is compatible with your specific appliance model. To do this, you will need to locate the appliance model number. Here’s how you can check for compatibility:

  1. Look for the appliance model number on your appliance. It will say MOD or Model before it and is typically found on a sticker or a metal plate in one of the following locations:
  • On the side panel or the door frame
  • On the back or bottom of the dishwasher
  • On the control panel or console
  1. Once you have located the model number, write it down or take a clear photo for reference.
  2. Visit www.appliancepartspros.com where you can enter your model number to verify if the part is compatible with your model.

Safety precautions

When working on any appliance, remember to keep safety first. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Always power off and unplug your appliance or switch off the circuit breaker before attempting any maintenance or replacement work. This keeps you safe by preventing any risk of injury from electric shock.
  • Turn off the water supply at the outlet before beginning repairs to any appliance parts that hold water. Have towels ready for any residual water in the system when removing parts.
  • Wear insulated work gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal parts, pinching hazards and debris.
  • Don’t test wiring with a multimeter for live voltage if you’re unfamiliar with how to prevent short circuiting when testing.
  • When working with wires, avoid touching any exposed wires or terminals. If you need to touch a wire, use a non-conductive tool or wear insulating gloves to prevent electrical shock.
  • Take your time and don’t rush while working to prevent accidents and personal injuries.
  • Work in a well-lit area so you can clearly see and access the interior parts.
  • Clear your workspace of clutter and other obstacles. Keep children and pets away from the work area.
  • Never work on internal parts with bare wet hands. Make sure the work area is completely dry.
  • Check your user manual to see if there are specific installation or safety instructions for your part or appliance.
  • Be gentle when handling or removing parts. Excessive force might damage the appliance or cause injury.
  • Wear safety glasses when working with chemicals, dust or cleaning large debris to prevent injury.
  • If the appliance has recently been used, give it plenty of time for any heating parts to cool down before working on it.
  • Take pictures or make a note of wiring terminals or other connections before disconnecting to prevent any problems with reassembly.

Replacement steps

Step 1: disassembly

  1. Turn off the power to the dishwasher by switching off the circuit breaker or unplugging it.
  2. Locate the water supply valve and shut it off to stop the water flow to the dishwasher.
  3. Use a phillips-head screwdriver to remove the screws securing the lower access panel at the bottom of the dishwasher. Carefully remove the lower access panel from the dishwasher.
  4. Use a 5/8th inch wrench to unthread the water supply line from the inlet valve. Be prepared for some water to spill.
  5. Locate the junction box cover usually located at the bottom of the dishwasher. Unthread the screw securing the cover and pull the cover off.
  6. Take note of the location of the wires connected in the junction box. Untwist the wire nuts to disconnect the wires.
  7. Unthread the strain relief nut and detach the strain relief from the junction box.
  8. Disconnect the drain hose from the sink drain or garbage disposal and feed it through the cabinet.
  9. Open the dishwasher door and remove the mounting bracket screws that secure the dishwasher to the countertop or cabinet.
  10. If necessary, adjust the dishwasher legs to lower the appliance. To lower the rear leveling leg, use a 9/64th inch hex-head screwdriver to rotate the adjustment rod at the front clockwise.
  11. Carefully pull the dishwasher away from the cabinet, ensuring you don’t damage any connections or hoses.
  12. Open the dishwasher door and remove the lower dish rack.
  13. Use needle-nose pliers to rotate the water panel grill counter-clockwise to remove it.
  14. Use the Phillips-head screwdriver to unthread the screws securing the left side access panel and remove the panel.
  15. Pull the water panel away from the side of the dishwasher, noting the orientation of the hoses.
  16. Release the spring clamps and pull all the hoses free.
  17. Disconnect the two wire connectors to fully remove the old water panel.
  18. Transfer the gasket from the old water panel to the new one.
  19. Connect the two wire connectors to the appropriate ports on the new water panel.
  20. Attach the hoses to the corresponding ports on the new panel and secure them with the spring clamps.

Step 2: reassembly

  1. Position the new water panel on the dishwasher.
  2. Replace the left side access panel and secure it with the screws, with the larger screw going in the back.
  3. Rotate the grill clockwise to replace it and secure the lower dish rack.
  4. Ensure the drain hose is accessible through the cabinet wall and that the water supply and power supply lines are positioned in their respective channels in the dishwasher base.
  5. Gently slide the dishwasher back into the cabinet, taking care not to pinch any hoses or wires.
  6. Adjust the leveling legs if necessary to ensure the dishwasher is level.
  7. Secure the mounting brackets to the cabinet or countertop using the screws.
  8. Feed the drain hose through the cabinet and connect it to the sink drain or garbage disposal, ensuring the hose is elevated above the connection point.
  9. Fully position the wire strain relief in the junction box and secure the strain relief nut.
  10. Reconnect the wires using the wire nuts, align the junction box cover, and replace the screw to secure it.
  11. Reconnect the water supply line to the inlet valve.
  12. Replace the lower access panel and secure it with the screws.
  13. Turn on the water supply valve and restore power to the dishwasher.
