I didn't realize that the agitator in my old, top-loading Kenmore machine has two-parts. I did notice that the upper end of the agitator was just moving back and forth slowly and gently when it should have been turning vigorously to make the laundry cycle from the top to the bottom of the drum. I noticed a small cap on the top of the agitator and pulled it off; no tools needed. I then moved the agitator back and forth by hand and noticed that the agitator dogs flipped out to make contact with a toothed ring inside the agitator, but that they weren't gripping that ring. I looked closer and realized that they were nearly perfectly smooth where they made contact with the toothed ring; their teeth were worn off. I checked the AppliancePartsPros site for descriptions of similar problems in old washing machines like mine, and realized that the agitator dogs were worn out. I ordered new ones, which arrived two days earlier than promised, and followed the ridiculously easy steps demonstrated on the AppliancePartsPros website to fix the machine in under 5 minutes. I only needed one socket, one socket extension and a ratchet handle. Thanks very much to AppliancePartsPros!!!
