The machine was flashing an E3 error code that could mean a bunch of things. It wouldn't spin and was making an awful noise when we manually moved the tub. We took the 7-year old machine apart and discovered the spider was corroded to pieces. We replaced the spider and the rear tub seal with the help of various youtube videos. All the hoses were jammed full of debris and needed a good cleaning as well, it's hard to believe that it was draining at all. The whole project was difficult and took a long time, but certainly much cheaper than replacing the washer.
