Bay S Bothell , WA January 05, 2016 Worn bearing and felt causing dryer drum to rattle and creek Recommendations have fun and a bucket to prevent losing parts. First watch the videos, practice disassemble and reassemble the dryer drum. Make certain you have a good screw driver and spatula from kitchen (could not find my putty knife). Secondly, clean and inspect everything, make sure the motor bearing and belt pulleys are in good condition with little or no play. Third after you have confidently disassembled, vacuum cleaned, inspected all the worn parts, grease the motor and pulley, reassembled the dryer and discovered it still works. Forth step, You are now ready to order your parts to refurbish the dryer. My rear bearing was worn, belt was 3-4 yrs old from last replacement, the top felt and Teflon were getting compressed allowing the drum to wander, exhaust flex ducting and clamp had worn out with cracks and leaks. The parts arrived within a week, was wrapped and put under the Christmas Tree. 5th step, recruit the help of a young daughter to hold the parts in the rear of the dryer because my arms could not reach and my eyes could not see both sides of the dryer to replace the bearing, bearing cup and housing. Do Not Force the Parts. Do Not Tighten Screws Until Parts are Properly Seated and Assembled. Remember, the factory workers are only given couple of second to assemble the dryer, if it takes any more than a couple of seconds, Stop! Get a cup of coffee, relax and try again. Make sure the belt don't get caught and damage anything during disassembly or assembly. Inventory the parts before the repair work and compare the parts before final assembly. It only took 15 to 20 minutes to complete the entire rebuild, ...my youngest daughter helped clean the old felt off the front panel and applied the contact adhesive. She also helped with the bearing installation by holding the bearing components in the back. After spending less than $60 for felt, belt, bearing kit, new flex hose and clamp, ...the dryers works. One more suggestion, ...remove the fin-agitators in the drum. We found fuzz-balls, coins, ear ring, keys and other stuff that tumbled around making clanking sounds. Now we have a wonderful working quiet USA made dryer. Thank You and Happy New Years. Amy N Pike Road , AL March 27, 2018 Constant beeping no heat My 12 year old Frigidaire stack on top dryer had been beeping distress messages in some unintelligible code for about a year when it completely stopped producing heat. It also had a long standing issue with delicate fabrics and thin straps or drawstrings getting caught in the drum. After using this site to troubleshoot and viewing the useful how-to videos, I ordered and replaced the heating element, thermal limiter, and felt seals. Based on others' stories, I decided to also replace the rear drum bearing and belt while I had it disassembled, and due to the advanced age of my machine. I knew that the beeping was probably indicative of a bad control panel, but chose to replace the cheaper parts first in hopes of avoiding that expense. Despite my complete lack of repair experience, I was able to easily take apart the machine and replace all the parts using common household tools. It was obvious that the old parts I replaced were worn or damaged and in need of repair. Unfortunately, the dryer still did not produce heat when reassembled. But good news: I had found a sheet taped to the inside of my machine that described the diagnostic test procedure and error codes. Once I followed these instructions, I was able to identify the last problem as "error code 62", the control panel. I ordered the last part and was able to install it in about 20 minutes using the video on this site. Now my dryer works like new, without eating my clothes and without all the beeping! Total cost of this overhaul was about 1/3 the price of a new dryer. Happy customer! Kathie R Burlington , WI January 15, 2016 Appliance: Model 417-99570150/ SERIES 95701 Dryer would not turn on The dryer is a Kenmore Laundry Center, model 417-99570150. Bought in 1998, so it is an older model. Not wanting to buy the newer ones that are out now. We opted to fix the Kenmore. Just believe the older models are worth fixing, if at all possible. Frist we had to figure out what parts we would need and if the cost would be worth our time. I went on YouTube: and type in Kenmore dryer not turning on. Watched several videos to narrow down the possible problem. Next step was to disassemble the dryer, which was intimidating at frist, but, the more I took apart the simpler it was, when I actually could see the inner working of the dryer. Its pretty basic inside. Took the parts I wanted off and, some I was not sure of and ordered them from AppliancePartsPro.com. I Searched many sites for the parts and APP had the same parts as Kenmore and other sites, plus they were considerable cheaper. Got the parts in a couple of days, all parts were in good condition, new, and heavy duty. I took off old part and put on new part. Did this until all parts were replaced. When taking off wires I color coded the clip to be sure the wires were reconnected correctly; When I got the dryer apart I could see what needed to be replaced, the bearing and drum support shaft were broke. Some wires on the back of dryer were melted, so needed to replace the thermal limiter, dryer heater assembly was falling to pieces. Also the Front felt glide assembly was worn needed to be replaced. Totaled up the cost of new parts, and it was a no-brainer. Can't remember exact cost, was under $160.00. I will add too review when I find exact cost. Time it took taking dryer apart, about 45mins, taking parts off and replacing about 30mins. My husband cut the wires (where they melted) and spliced new wire in and put shrink wrap where they spliced together, about 45 mins (If you need to change any wires, make sure too use same gage as old wire). Put dryer back together took about 25min. Except for taking out drum and putting drum back in, and splicing the wires together. I being a 62 year old women did all this myself, I do say it was easier and not as scary as I thought it would be. I would do it all again if I had too. The dryer has been up and running great for a couple of months. Just hope the washer stays running!!!! Toby N Grove City , OH July 16, 2023 Appliance: Model 417.88042700 The Kenmore 417 88042700 dryer would stop within 1 5 minutes upon starting a cycle the heat selection button did not work and it would beep and change control settings at random I was afraid to order the control board because some of the symptoms pointed to a bad thermal limiter or thermistor and it was interesting that the dryer tended to work without incident on cold low humidity days. Happily, there were lots of repair stories like this one on AppliancePartsPros.com and in every case I read where the dryer would randomly beep in addition to the quick shut off the fix was always to replace the main control board. Of note is that the code the dryer produced in debug mode was not one that is on the sheet of codes for this model, so I think that was also good evidence of the fault lying with the board. (I have forgotten what it was, sorry, did the test a year ago.) After enduring the slot machine like torture of having to restart the dryer 1-10 times in hopes of it finishing a cycle I finally ordered the control board along with the thermal limiter. I replaced the control board first. I have some electronics knowledge and none of the usual suspects were present upon a visual inspection. No leaking capacitors, corrosion, burns or anything could be seen. This concerns me since I would love to know why these boards fail so often in both the washers and the dryers, but here's hoping the new part is a better revision. This replacement of the control board is easy, it is a total of 11 or so screws to remove. Just be mindful not to drop any screws into the dryer, get help online if you are not sure of something, UNPLUG the dryer before starting, and be careful of static electricity when handling your new control board. Also, once you have the control panel off I recommend disconnecting all the wires from it so that you can work on the board swap at a bench or a desk. Each button on the panel has a spring and you don't want accidentally drop one in a dark basement. Also, the two screws that hold the top cover of the dryer on are my least favorite, as they love to get cross threaded, but it is easily less than an hour to do the swap. After replacing the control board and reassembling everything the dryer has worked without incident for a week now. Like many others I didn't need the Thermal Limiter, but I will hang on to it just in case. Long story short, if your dryer is beeping all the time and changing settings on its own in addition to shutting off way too soon and showing flashing lights odds are you will need a new control board. It is a hard sell since the board costs half as much as a new dryer of similar quality, but way better than putting up with this problem for a year or more. Linda R La Jolla , CA November 30, 2014 Appliance: Model FRIDGIDAIRE The dryer did not heat! My appliance repair guy checked out the problem, but the stack washer dryer required the contractor to dismantle the cabinet to allow the repair to occur. So i wanted the parts available for the repair, so we would not have to have the dryer pulled apart in a small space for an extended time i ordered the parts on Friday afternoon and they arrived at my home before noon on Saturday! The contractor and the repairman were able to coordinate the repair on Tuesday morning, and though the electric dryer heating element was the problem, we decided to change out 2 other items, while the dryer was disassembled. Now we keep our fingers crossed that the dryer will last a few more years. Thank you for your expedient and knowing phone operators.
