Kevin H San Antonio , TX July 16, 2016 Appliance: Model SCR1400W Compressor quit running on my summit scr1400w beverage merchandiser The beer fridge for the man cave died on me after about 1 year of operation. I was unable to diagnose it at the time or find replacement parts online. I was never impressed with the quality of materials used in this appliance (cheap fans, cheap vinyl interior, cheap everything), so I just bought a Turbo-Air to replace it (MUCH higher quality). The Summit sat in my garage for a couple of years, and I finally got around to looking at it again because my wife told me it needed to go. After diagnosing it again, it looked like the starter relay went bad on it, however nobody I could find carries Summit repair parts except Summit (and they will rip you off big time - wanted to charge me $54 for a $3 fan that was DOA). You also cannot order online from them. After much Googling, I happened across this starter assembly at my favorite online parts company, AppliancePartPros. It looked exactly like the part that I thought was bad in my Summit. I figured I'd give it a shot for <$40, and it did the trick. The refrigerator is running great again, and now I'll try to sell it. AppliancePartPros comes through again! You guys have saved me hundreds of dollars over the years! This is an EASY repair - just make sure you take pictures or label any wires that you remove so that you know where they go on the new part. Or transfer them one at a time. I unfortunately had it disassembled completely for two years and couldn't find the pics I took. There was a basic schematic label on the back of the fridge, which helped. Failure Symptoms - humming sound and then a click. Compressor wouldn't turn on. Diagnostic - measured the windings on the compressor to make sure the compressor was not shorted (read ~5 - 7 ohms on each winding). Measured across the relay where the start and run winding connections are made, and got abnormally high resistance. Assumed relay was bad.
