Dave January 22, 2020 for Model Number GGN30 serial # 94030022 When I turn on the right front burner it lights and flame adjusts like it should, but all the igniters continue to spark. The other three burners work normally and stop sparking when flame is present. Could this be caused by a bad spark switch or module? If so, how do I check each? Does the cooktop need to be removed from the countertop? Thanks for a prompt reply.
1 Answer Dave, the most likely failure would be in the switch 00428049, which can be tested for continuity to ensure that it is able to open and close properly. If it opens and closes properly, then the failure would be in the ignition device 00636439. Read More...
Robert S. July 13, 2018 for Model Number GGNCV30 While I was using the stove last week, my cooktop started sparking all the time. I had to unplug the power. I checked all 4 burner microswitches, and one checked out bad. I ordered a replacement from you, installed it, and the nonstop sparking continued. I checked all the switches again, and they are working (Normally open, closed when gas valve knob is turned to on). Ordered and replaced spark module from you. The new one is for 4, 5, or 6 burners. I connected it exactly as instructed (for 4 burners only). Now, the continuous sparking has stopped, but when any burner is ignited, the sparking doesn't stop. What else could be wrong? One of my ceramic "spark towers" has never been replaced, and it is a bit loose. I tried disconnecting that unit completely, but it had no effect on the problem.
1 Answer Hello Robert, The issue of the ignitors continuing to spark after the burner is lit is quite common and normally does not require any parts to repair. First I will explain how the unit is designed to operate since it is necessary to understand how it works to fully understand why it acts this way when not operating properly. For safety reasons the unit is designed to spark all ignitors at the same time in case something were to be miswired and one of the surface burners are turned on and gas is coming in but the spark is too far away for ignition to occur because the spark is occurring on another surface burner, creating an explosion danger. Since all burners are designed to spark at the same time, this eliminates the possibility of a gas accumulation in the room that the spark can ignite if miswired. Next, the spark module is actually sensing the very low resistance of the flame and turns off the sparking when the flame is present. If the flame goes out, the spark module senses the larger resistance of the absence of the flame and will try to restart the flame by sparking all surface burner ignitors again. If a spill occurs or an increase in resistance between the metal pieces of the cooktop from normal corrosion, the resistance is increased enough that the spark module cannot sense the small resistance of the flame and will spark all of the ignitors. Technicians refer to this as "dropping ground" for the surface burners. Correction of the issue includes disassembly of the cooktop and cleaning, (best with sandpaper), between the connection points of the metal parts of the cooktop so when the screws are reinserted, electrical continuity is re-established between the chassis and all of the parts connected in turn to it. This is so chassis ground will be electrically provided to the burner base for the spark module to sense the presence of the flame and it will eliminate the sparking. Read More...
Ming April 24, 2018 for Model Number GG3002 When not use the cooktop, 4 spark ignitors always spark, not stop till turn on fire of the biggest one. after turn off, it sparks again. What is the problem? what parts I need to replace?
1 Answer Hello Ming. You will need to test the spark switches and see which one is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit. Thank you. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Larry July 17, 2017 for Model Number bosch ngm5064uc/03 How do I test the spark module or otherwise determine that it needs to be replaced? Thanks
1 Answer Hello Larry. You test for power to the spark module. If there is power there and no spark, you will need to order and replace the module on the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Don K November 27, 2012 for Model Number Thrmador cook top GG30 I believe I need a Spark Module. There are two parts listed. Does the 4 point module AP2821617 apply to a 4 burner stove? The other part shown is AP2836547. Also is it difficult to connect the wires. Finally how do you detach the cover? Do you need to remove the burners? Don Klug
Howard P. June 20, 2011 for Model Number GGCV30 Where is the igniter module located and where is the wiring diagram for the igniter hook-up to the burners?
1 Answer Hello Howard. The manufacture does not offer this information. The wiring diagram should be located somewhere on the unit. Thanks. Read More...
