For Ge Refrigerator Compressor (Part Number: OEM11565990)

Richard for Model Number ZISS420DRCSS

This 14-year old 42" GE Monogram frig is cooling/freezing everything fine. The freezer & frig sections maintain 0-2 F and 34 F respectively, and the water and ice dispensers are working fine. However, I recently started hearing a loud "Rat-ta-ta-ta-ta-tat" noise coming from somewhere. It sounds like a machine gun or jackhammer and is hard to locate because it only lasts a second or two and occurs at random intervals between 30 minutes to perhaps 2 hours. The interval between noise appears to be longer when I leave the upper cover open. Could this perhaps be a compressor on its way out? Or ... ???

1 Answer

Richard, This issue would most likely not be a issue with the compressor but possibly be the refrigerant flow through the evaporator. Or a possible fan that is hitting something sporadically or bearings going bad on it.

Hello Jeff, I'm sorry but we will need to ask you to please post a new question including the verified model number from the units' I.D. tag since the one provided will not come up for us as a valid model number. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Jamie, check the inverter to see if you are getting 12 volts DC at the red and black wire, if not, you have a bad control board, the board is located at the back of the refrigerator. If voltage is correct, then your compressor has failed and needs to be replaced

Kev for Model Number ZISS420NRCS

My GE Monogram Refrigerator started to make a noise that sounded like helicopter blades. A constant "duh-duh-duh-duh-duh" then would stop. The refrigerator is not longer freezing or cooling. My guess is compressor but not sure how to troubleshoot or what part number for ZISS420NRCS. The compressor in the unit is an Embraco VEGT 8H [230V-53 to 150Hz]. Could I test with a multi-meter to narrow down the issue? Please advise on trouble shooting and the correct replacement compressor part.

There are several fan motors in this refrigerator that can also make the noise you have described. Take the back cover off of the lower back of the unit and make sure nothing is interfering with the condenser fan motor. There is a control board on the back of the unit that sends power to the compressor, you can check there to see of it is sending 120 volts to the compressor.

Hello Nick. There is a process line on the compressor. You place the service valve on it. We do not have a photo. Sorry.

Paul for Model Number GE Profile Fridge PFCS1NJWA

With the help of an external fan blowing ambient air under the fridge the unit is more or less working, but on its own it can't keep the freezer or main compartment cold. The condenser fan is running as expected BUT the 3-phase compressor (all windings reading at 7.7ohm) is getting very warm (in fact I'd call it hot, almost too hot to hold ones hand on). This seems wrong. An inverter or a mechanical compressor fault? Any opinions?

1 Answer

Paul, The units compressor will get extremely hot to the touch and the issue would most likely be caused by a faulty or weak fan the condenser coils be clogged with dirt. Also in order for the unit to operate properly it would need to have the cover over the back of the unit where the compressor is.

Hello Mike. The sealed system consist of the compressor, evaporator, condenser coils, and filter dryer. Also, any Freon and copper fittings are part of it as well.
