Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Refrigerator Defrost Drain Funnel (Part Number: OEM17953437)

Karthik, with the ice cleared out, the door should be tested to ensure that it is sealing properly to the cabin. This can be done by using a piece of paper the size of a dollar to place in between the gasket and the cabin, close the door, and test for resistance when sliding the paper out. This would need to be done across the entire gasket. If there is a section that does not have resistance, then the gasket has not sealed and would need to be corrected.

Hello Randy. Try cleaning out all the ice again and turn the temp in the freezer to 0. May be to cold.

Charlie, You will need to remove the rear wall of the freezer and clean out all the ice from under the evaporator and flush with hot water. You will then want to change out the drain tube part number W10619951 to keep this from happening. There is a duck bill on the unit drain right now that will need to be removed.

I have taken the lower back panel off and checked the little black rubber piece. Seems fine. The funnel going up into the freezer compartment seems to be plugged with a plastic plug, like the plastic piece was never removed from the inside of the funnel tube. It is completely closed off with a plastic plug. I put a hose on it and could not blow or pull any air back through it. Could the factory have put a defective plugged up funnel in there? If so can I push the plastic piece out of the funnel? If I have to replace it I assume I need to do it from the inside of the freezer compartment. Right?

Hello Greg, The part should come with an instruction sheet. This part W10619951 will install from the inside the machine compartment behind the refrigerator. Air and water should be able to freely pass through this device. If not you should open the freezer compartment and remove the covers allowing access to the defrost drain to ensure nothing is blocking it.

Hello Bill. If the funnel is broken, then you will need to order a new funnel W10815413 and snap it into place. Make sure you clear the drain line of any clogs.

Hello Dave, If the loop is not in the drain tube WR02X11476 this will be your issue. You see, the loop holds water which will prevent the air from entering and exiting the freezer section.

Hello Bob. This is not easy to replace. The evaporator needs to be raised, without damaging it, and the pan needs to be moved to replace the funnel. If it is not damaged, it is best not to replace it.

Thanks for this great website . I saved myself 30+ $$ on reading the forums here and not buying a water control valve for my icemaker . Instead the cause of water pooling on the floor of the freezer (bottom) was a clogged the frozen drain for the defrost water drain. Yup full of food gunk. I was able to clean it out from behind the fridge and melt the ice plug with a hairdryer from inside the freezer area. I am wondering about a black rubber cap thing that's on the end of the funnel where it sticks down above the channel and pan that collects the water. It seem like a choke point for food debris from above and I do not see it on the list of parts you list here for the freezer. Is it really needed?

Hello Chris345. As long as the funnel is installed properly onto the unit, and the seal and gasket are good, you should be fine with the water draining properly.
