Found the fix description online - purchased the Door Latch Bracket. I did need to remove the Microwave from the cabinet it was built into. Required removing the screws at the four corners of the trim piece surrounding the microwave. Then removed the oven with the frame bracket attached - removed the bracket, then needed a star shaped secure screwdriver to remove the microwave skin around the sides and top (remove the secure screws from the back and slide the skin toward the back and off). ... The manufacturer has changed the color of this part and it is now brown. Measures about 1-1/2 inches in diameter.
The drive coupling broke and after some observation the motor did not seem to be turning either. To repair, the perimeter housing screws need to be removed to gain access to the motor. That is the hardest part. Then just disconnect the wires from the old motor and remove it. Screw in the new motor and put everything back together. Replaced a bad thermostat. The factory thermostat had a bad internal connection (one contact was loose) and that caused the insulation to melt with the eventual failure of the thermostat. I ordered a replacement door latch. It was simple to snap off the plastic trim bezel on the inside of the door, then raise the existing latch and unhook it from its guide. (Lift and pull sideways until it snaps out of its track.) Read more
