Patricia for Model Number SHX45p05UC/60 I bought dishwasher almost 7 years ago. About 5 yrs ago I started to notice rust on the front door panel. I cleaned the rust and continued to clean panel using cleaners for stainless steel appliances. Today As I was cleaning the kitchen the rust has expanded in such a way that it appears the panel isn't stainless steel. At least the quality is very poor at best. I bought all my appliances at same time. The dishwasher is the only Bosch. The other appliances are all stainless steel and are in perfect condition. I wonder if other buyers have had same experience?
Answer Patricia, We haven't heard of a rust situation on door panels on a Bosch dishwasher. But you are correct, different manufacturers use different grades of stainless steel. This may be helpful " Stainless steel and the chromium oxide layer actually thrive on proper cleaning. For everyday cleaning of non-oxidized soils, dust, dirt and fingerprints, a mild soap/detergent (dish detergent) and warm water solution should be used. Use the solution to remove the soil, rinsing with fresh water and a clean cloth, and dry completely. Another alternative is to clean with a recommended stainless steel cleaner such as Cerama Bryte Stainless Steel Cleaner. Removal of oxidized stains and even “surface rust” can be done by using a paste made from baking soda and water or a cleaner that contains oxalic acid, such as Bar Keeper's Friend Soft Cleanser. " Once cleaned and dried, an occasional coat of spray on stainless steel cleaner and polish should help to disrupt the rust/oxidation.
