Neal for Model Number Thermidor PCS486GDUS 48" Pro Cooktop (Star Burners) Front left burner spark ignitor not working to ignite gas burner. All other ignitors working fine. I have cleaned the ignitor. No cracks in the porcelin part of the ignitor seen. Ignitor feels just slightly loose, has a little wiggle in it, unlike the other ignitors. I can, however, just barely see a spark down below the surface where the ignitor comes through, but it is not above the level of the burner enough to light the burner. The spark is apparently finding another ground somewhere below where it is supposed to. My question is how to access and remove the ignitor? Does the burner come out, and if so, how? I suspect replacing the ignitor is a simple job, and I see you have it in stock, I just don't know how to access it to replace it. Thanks for your help.
Answer Neal, It does sound like the ignitor has a crack or chip in the porcelain under the top, or a loose /shorted connector. It can be simple and easy, but not very often. You'll need to remove the "star" burner cap 00189015 then the venturi tube nut 00189023 these have a tendency to seize to the jet holder 00188976 and can create a bit of a big issue (quite often they need to be cut off),once off you can lift the burner base 00488372 off the top.Then you can carefully lift the burner mount tray off the support rail and remove the wires to the igniter and change out the igniter.
