Hello Gary, There is something fishy about this. You see, all of the wiring for the surface is completely independent of all of the wiring for the bake compartment. If neither are working, this means you will start at the terminal block, (where the power cord is attached to the unit), and work your way back through the receptacle and breaker box. The wiring separates at the terminal block and goes in their respective directions. If the bake compartment fails and the surface still works, the direction for troubleshooting is cut and dry, (and vice versa). So, it seems like your issue will be a simple one to locate. Be sure to inspect the spades on the power cord for burned spots. If you find any, the receptacle will require replacement and the burned spots have to be sanded off to prevent burning up a new receptacle. Let us know if we can assist you further.
