S.R. for Model Number Frigidaire dishwasher Model FDB1050REM2

Over the course of about 6 months, the dishwasher started making a crackling noise in the short wash cycle but washed fine. Noise got worse, and I tried using the normal cycle. That worked for a while, then that cycle started making the crackling noise. Moved on to using the pots & pans cycle, and it made the noise too but less. This is over several months time. Finally, the dishwasher started filling with water basically throughout the cycle & overflowed a bit. It drains fine. The overflow valve stops the water when actuated, & when I open the door, the water stops. The water stops also if the power is off. I've also smelled burning plastic/wire smell at times, but there are no sparks underneath the dishwasher.

Answer

Hello S.R., The float switch should not cut the water off so you have either low water pressure to the unit or the water valve needs to be changed. As far as the crackling noise goes, the only thing I know of that would make a sound like this would be plastic or foil in the chopper blade or the pump impeller. The pump should be torn down to determine if the impeller and chopper blade areas are clear of debris. You should also look closely at the wiring and around the heating element while in there. One sore spot would be the nuts 154106202 holding the element in position. Frigidaire had some issues with these nuts, made from flat metal, splitting down the side and letting go of the element and allowing water to drip around and getting onto the electrical connection to the element.
