A.K. for Model Number WR30X10150 Does the “ice maker” itself make the ice or does it rely on freezer air for the ice creation? We didn’t have water hooked up for the longest time but when we got water installed and opened the freezer mechanism the switch had already been ON. It makes ice and ejects but only seems work after a day and resetting the switch and a prayer or two. There is cold air blowing out the lower hole of the refrigerator. I am assuming the upper hole is a return as it seems to be warmer.
Answer Hello A.K., The icemaker does not produce the temperature that makes the ice. The freezer provides the temperature drop and the cycling thermostat cycles when it senses that the water in the ice mold is cold enough to be frozen, (20°F). If the icemaker was on for a long time with no water connected, the icemaker assembly has most likely failed.
