Hello Danny, Use a pair of needle nosed pliers to "pry" the old one off. Now insert the tips of the needle nosed pliers in the new compression ring and open them slightly enough to get the ring onto the stem, being careful not to break off any fins. Slide it up to the required position and you're set. I usually get this onto the fan blade before sliding the fan blade onto the motor shaft.
