The Small Cube Ice Maker is an OEM component specifically designed for GE refrigerators. Responsible for automatically producing batches of fresh ice cubes on demand, this ice maker operates through freeze cycles that steadily deposit ice into the storage bin below.

Causes of an underperforming ice maker include mineral buildup that disrupts the freezing process over time. Mechanical parts inside like the harvester can also experience normal wear.

Symptoms of a failing ice maker involve:

  • Slow or reduced ice production
  • Ice cubes sticking together or fused sizes
  • Empty bins despite the unit running
  • Grinding or unusual noise during freeze cycles

Restore reliable ice provision with this genuine GE replacement. This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

David for Model Number CVE28DM5NBS5

the icemaker in my GE Cafe refrigerator has some water in it but is not freezing. It was working fine for 15 months and then stopped making ice. I performed the Icemaker Diagnostic Test (turned icemaker off for 15 seconds, turned it back on, and pushed the paddle 3 times. The icemaker rake never rotated after 3 minutes nor did water fill the mold. It sounded like the motor in the icemaker was operating for maybe 15 seconds but no movement seen. Do I need a new icemaker or is it something else? I turned the freezer temp from 0 to -4 but nothing changed.

Answer

David, as the water in the ice maker is not freezing, the ice box fan WR60X31997 in the freezer section would need to be inspected for proper operation. If it is not rotating, it would need to be checked for incoming voltage to identify if it has failed. If there is voltage getting to it, and it is not spinning, the fan has failed and would need to be replaced.
