Customer Questions and Answers for Spark Module by Ge

By: Ge
Part Number: OEM6061719
Manufacturer Part Number: WB13K25

The Spark Module is an OEM replacement part for GE gas ranges. It is responsible for generating electric sparks to ignite the gas burners on the cooktop. The spark module produces consecutive sparks when a surface burner knob is turned on, which ignite the gas mixture and allows the burner flame to ignite safely and consistently.

Causes of a bad spark module can include faulty electrodes, worn internal components that hamper sparking, or damage due to moisture intrusion or power surges over time.

Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

  • Burners that will not ignite or only intermittently ignite
  • Flashback or burning above the burner head
  • The smell of gas when turning burners on

This GE replacement part is also compatible with models from Hotpoint, RCA, and certain Kenmore gas ranges.

3 of the 4 top burners consistently spark and light correctly. The 4th (larger rt front one) consistently sparks but does not light the burner.. Visual inspection of spark from all burners looks the same as best I can tell. Visually inspected wires to ignitor - nothing frayed or burned. Cleaned burner parts and orifice (just a precaution as they looked like new) and replaced the burner ignitor with a new one . Burner still won't light by itself. Burner will light fine with match. With burner off, blew through straw placed on top of orifice to prove no gas piping leak between valve and orifice with burner valve shut off. Repositioned burner cap assembly several times just to do it. Any suggestions?

Answer

Al, Since you have spark and gas, you'll need to do a couple of more checks, Check the burner cap WB29X36765 Burner Cap, check the edge and underside of the cap for chips, debris, etc. Remove the burner base WB16T10046 Large Surface Burner and check the underside for debris, scratches, Use a large needle or pick and check and clean all the openings in the burner base, especially the area of the igniter indentation. Then remove the burner orifice(7mm nut driver) and check to see that there is no grease, oil or debris in the orifice opening. If all's OK, then replace the spark module.
