Manufacturer Part Number: ACM73919214

The Defrost Control Assembly is an OEM part for LG refrigerators. It is designed to regulate the defrost cycle, ensuring that frost buildup on the evaporator coils is periodically melted away. This helps maintain efficient cooling performance and prevents excessive ice accumulation, which can hinder the refrigerator's functionality.

You should replace the defrost control assembly if it becomes faulty. Causes of a bad defrost control assembly can include electrical failures, regular wear and tear, or damage from power surges. A malfunctioning defrost control can lead to issues such as inadequate defrosting, which results in excessive frost buildup and affects the cooling efficiency of the refrigerator.

Symptoms of a bad defrost control assembly include:

  • Frost buildup on the evaporator coils
  • The refrigerator not cooling properly
  • The defrost cycle not initiating or running too frequently
  • Increased energy consumption due to the refrigerator working harder to maintain temperature

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore models.

Answer

Frankie, The first step in figuring this unit out would be to remove the rear wall and check to make sure that there is a frost pattern on the evaporator coils. The fan does not run when the doors are open. If there is ice completely covering and blocking air flow then this would be a defrost issue in which you would need to test the evaporator sensor, defrost heater and if they are ok then will be a faulty control board. If there is no frost pattern at all then this would be a sealed system issue in which you would need to have service to repair. If the frost pattern is full even frost pattern top to bottom then this would be a normal frost pattern and would need to test to see if the control board is sending power to the fan to run. If it is then replace the fan if it does not run.
