Manufacturer Part Number: ACM73919214

The Defrost Control Assembly is an OEM part for LG refrigerators. It is designed to regulate the defrost cycle, ensuring that frost buildup on the evaporator coils is periodically melted away. This helps maintain efficient cooling performance and prevents excessive ice accumulation, which can hinder the refrigerator's functionality.

You should replace the defrost control assembly if it becomes faulty. Causes of a bad defrost control assembly can include electrical failures, regular wear and tear, or damage from power surges. A malfunctioning defrost control can lead to issues such as inadequate defrosting, which results in excessive frost buildup and affects the cooling efficiency of the refrigerator.

Symptoms of a bad defrost control assembly include:

  • Frost buildup on the evaporator coils
  • The refrigerator not cooling properly
  • The defrost cycle not initiating or running too frequently
  • Increased energy consumption due to the refrigerator working harder to maintain temperature

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore models.

Pavel for Model Number Kenmore 795.79993510

Both the fridge and freezer are not cooling enough. I opened the back of the freezer and found ice on the Evaporator Assembly. I thought that the problem may be in the Defrost Control Assembly, but the compressor is running non-stop and it is very hot (my understanding is that it should be off during the defrost cycle). I checked the Defrost Control Assembly (0 ohm on red, 14.5k ohms on orange) and both Heaters around the Evaporator Assembly (66 and 155 ohms). How can I diagnose what is the issue here? Is the culprit the main control board? Thank you.

Answer

Hello Pavel, the compressor is controlled by an inverter circuit, it and the defrost circuit are part of the main control board. This ref has dual evap coils, a defrost problem on one will not affect the other. Likely the ref is running a lot to try to cool each compartment to the correct set temp. This sounds like a sealed system problem rather than a control board problem.
