The Temperature Sensor is an OEM part for LG refrigerators. Also known as a thermistor, is responsible for sensing the temperature changes and providing the necessary feedback to the refrigerator's control board. It helps maintain accurate and consistent temperature levels, ensuring optimal food preservation and efficient cooling.

Causes of a faulty temperature sensor can include wear and tear over time, damage due to electrical issues or exposure to extreme temperatures, or sensor calibration issues. These factors can result in temperature inconsistencies, inaccurate readings, or improper cooling performance of the refrigerator.

Symptoms of a bad temperature sensor may include:

  • Incorrect temperature readings on the control panel
  • Temperature fluctuations inside the refrigerator
  • Overcooling or inadequate cooling of food items

This OEM LG part can also be used on Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Answer

Charles, On this model when a sensor fails, there is usually an error listed on the display [ex. Er ff]. This part can be tested for resistance for 7.8k ohms of resistance at 0 degrees and 1.4k ohms at about 40 degrees. It really sounds like you could have a problem with the air damper located inside the air tower in the refrigerator with it not opening. Unfortunately, if that is your issue that part is no longer available. Remember the fans won't run when the doors are open and when the sensor is unplugged it goes into a manual cool.
