It helps maintain accurate and consistent temperature levels, ensuring optimal food preservation and efficient cooling.

Causes of a faulty temperature sensor can include wear and tear over time, damage due to electrical issues or exposure to extreme temperatures, or sensor calibration issues. These factors can result in temperature inconsistencies, inaccurate readings, or improper cooling performance of the refrigerator.

Symptoms of a bad temperature sensor may include:

  • Incorrect temperature readings on the control panel
  • Temperature fluctuations inside the refrigerator
  • Overcooling or inadequate cooling of food items

This OEM LG part can also be used on Kenmore/Sears appliances.

In Chul Jang for Model Number LMXS28626S

I am suddenly having issues with my fridge where the temperature is too high. Overall, is not not cooling properly so items in the freezer are melting down. I checked the defrost sensor with a multimeter to make sure it wasn't having some issues (I replaced this 1 year ago as evaporator was building ice) and it checked OK. I am now trying to see if should replace the thermistor but apparently there are two... one in the freezer and one in the top refrigerator section. My issue is that these two sensor have different ranges and I want to know if this sensor is for the freezer or the refrigerator section? If this is for the freezer, where can I find the sensor for the refrigerator?

Answer

In Chul Jang, The freezer thermistor will be part number 6500JB2002X. The refrigerator sensor will be located in the ceiling under an oblong grill towards the back and the part number will be 6500JB2001B. It would be recommended to check the evaporator coils frost pattern. If there is frost but very little then it would not be the sensors causing this but would be more of a sealed system issue that would require service.
