Victor K for Model Number MCBR1020W 3 year old refrigerator we use in a seasonal cabin. After running for about 15 hours it starts making a very loud ticking noise when the compressor is running. It seems to tick for a couple of hours each time. I called Magic Chef and they thought it was the defrost timer. Does that sound plausible?
Answer Victor, Yes it is plausible for the defrost timer to develop a ticking noise. It could be when the timer gets to a certain point that the motor on it starts the ticking. Other than the compressor, and the fan motor, the timer is the only part that is a moving part. You will want to check to make sure that the fan is not hitting ice in the freezer compartment.
