Michael for Model Number AP3182733 My ice maker sits horizontally across the top, front of the freezer and does not use the shut-off arm but has the mechanism to operate the arm if it were present. Recently, I had an incident where the water from the supply line into the ice maker receive reservoir froze up and water leaked/sprayed all over the freezer. I removed the ice maker and discovered that the white wire on the wiring harness had come loose from the metal pin of the connector. I replaced the entire wiring harness with an old ice maker that I still had. I put the ice maker back together and back in the freezer. Now, it makes ice HOWEVER, the shut-off arm mechanism does not return to the "on" position after the ice is dispensed. So I have to manually turn it to the on position after every ice dispense. Any idea why this is happening? What do I need to do to fix?
Answer Michael, a model number of the refrigerator would've been a big help, but the best guess is you have an IDI (in door ice) system. it does not have or use a shut off/bail arm, it has an infrared sensor system that controls the ice maker production. If you did not install the 2198597 Ice maker assembly, you'll have issues. " I had an incident where the water from the supply line into the ice maker receive reservoir froze up and water leaked/sprayed all over the freezer." Would indicate the problem was in the water inlet/fill valve "seeping" and freezing in the fill tube top the ice maker, that may be where you want to start. Read More...
