ICE MAKER NOT WORKING ice container is empty. I can hear a small noise (maybe gear type noise) coming from left side near ice maker like something moving or trying to move. I have not yet tested the water supply. Also Water dispenser is not working as well but that's a separate problem - when lever is depressed, nothing happens. A cup was forced too hard on the lever and it immediately stopped working Perhaps a linkage or part broke? Water has not be run through dispenser for many months - could this effect the water supply to the ice maker over time?

Answer

Hello Jerry. Check and see if the gear is broken. If not, You need to check and see if there is power going to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If so, replace the water valve on the unit. If not, or the icemaker does not cycle, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit. Also, check and make sure the fill tube on the unit is not frozen and clogged. If so, replace the water valve and thaw out the fill tube. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
