David Lm for Model Number sxd25s2w For about 3 months now the freezer on our side by side is not getting as cold as it should. It makes ice but won't keep ice cream hard. All fans are working and the compressor comes on. I bought a new freezer thermostat controller from you and set it to max position #7. The new thermostat did not change the condition. What next?
Answer David, the first thing I would do, check some product temperatures. Get a pocket thermometer TJMA-PDT392B, plunge the end of the tool into a bag of frozen veggies, juice, or even ice cream. You're looking for a food temperature of 0 to 5 degrees (a 3 to 5 dgr temp. is recommended) and the temperature should be set at the mid range for at least 24 hours before testing. If the temperature range is within specification, your freezer is fine. If the temperature is more than a couple degrees off, we'll need to look for a problem in the evaporator fan or defrost system.
