George Y. for Model Number GMC275PD2 I have to replace the hinges on my oven every year or so. To date I have spent more on hinges than I did for my oven. I have settled on ordering the part with the heavier spring, 4455525, even though it is not the part specified for my black oven. Once I replaced the hinge with the hinge specified (4455522) with the lighter spring and it lasted two weeks. I have looked locally for replacement springs that would fit without success. Is there a solution to this obvious design flaw other than to send you nice folks money on a regular basis. I notice other folks have the same complaint.
Answer Hello George, I'm sorry for your trouble, expense, and dis-satisfaction. This is a design issue and complaints should be addressed to the manufacturer of the appliance. All we can do is provide replacement parts to correct the failures experienced with the manufacturers' designs. As far as replacing the hinges with the heavier duty ones, we cannot recommend this since it will cause the door to try to close while you may be trying to remove a hot dish from the unit which could actually become a safety issue. These heavier springs are designed to be installed on units with heavier doors. While you can purchase and install whatever parts you desire on your own unit, safety should always be considered.
