The Lid Latch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It ensures that the washer lid is securely locked during operation, preventing it from being opened mid-cycle, which could cause water spills and interrupt the washing process. This component plays a vital role in the safety and functionality of the washing machine by ensuring that the lid remains closed during washing and spinning cycles.

Causes of a bad lid latch assembly can include regular wear and tear, electrical failures, or physical damage from forcefully opening or closing the lid. When the lid latch assembly is faulty, it can affect the washer's ability to start or complete a cycle properly.

Symptoms of a bad Lid Latch Assembly include:

  • The washer not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • Error codes related to lid lock issues
  • The lid not locking or unlocking properly
  • The washer pausing unexpectedly during operation

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

John, You will want to pull the tech sheet which is located in the control panel of the washer and run a diagnostic and see if there are any stored error codes. These error codes will point you in the direction that you will need to go with the issue that you are having. Normally when there is an issue with the lid locking and then unlocking it is caused by either a faulty lid lock or the control board. If the lid lock does not fully engage it will cause the unit to unlock and usually try to lock again but will cause a flashing Lid lock light.
