The Lid Latch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It ensures that the washer lid is securely locked during operation, preventing it from being opened mid-cycle, which could cause water spills and interrupt the washing process. This component plays a vital role in the safety and functionality of the washing machine by ensuring that the lid remains closed during washing and spinning cycles.

Causes of a bad lid latch assembly can include regular wear and tear, electrical failures, or physical damage from forcefully opening or closing the lid. When the lid latch assembly is faulty, it can affect the washer's ability to start or complete a cycle properly.

Symptoms of a bad Lid Latch Assembly include:

  • The washer not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • Error codes related to lid lock issues
  • The lid not locking or unlocking properly
  • The washer pausing unexpectedly during operation

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Ken, If the door latch was faulty then it would not get that far in the cycle. There is a tech sheet located if the front left upper corner of the cabinet inside a plastic holder that you are going to need. You will have to remove the 2 screws in the rear and slide the top forward then raise it up and you can access the tech sheet. Read the tech sheet to enter service mode then retrieve the fault codes. Next to the fault codes description, it will give you the test number and page of how to test the part. The key to this tech sheet is to read it thoroughly instead of skimming and there is a good description of how to work your way through.
