Hello Gilbert, This is normally caused by a loss of the electrical ground to the surface burner. This is normally corrected by disassembly of the top area and sanding the places where the screws that hold the parts in place go through so they will make electrically to the chassis of the appliance. If you want to verify this is th4e issue before disassembly you can run a ground wire from a clean and shiny body screw near the lower part of the appliance to the burner area of the unit. If this does not cause the ignitor to properly spark, you could have an issue with the spark module 32020101 or wiring to the ignitor.
