By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM18020001
Manufacturer Part Number: WP2217220

This is an ice maker recirculation pump assembly. This part includes a motor and pump that sends water from the reservoir over the top of the evaporator plate. This forms the slab of ice that will then drop onto the cutting grid to make ice cubes. In the event that the appliance is not making ice, it could be because this part has gone bad. Some users report the pump becoming calcified and then no longer working. Whether this happens or not can depend upon the water quality. Unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet prior to attempting to replace this part. Wear work gloves for safety. This particular recirculation pump is compatible with ice cube makers that are manufactured by the Whirlpool, Kenmore, KitchenAid, and Scotsman brands. This part is sold individually and is sourced directly from the manufacturer.

Eric for Model Number KUIA15NRHS5

Ice maker stopped working due to broken ice cutter wire. After inspecting, I decided to replace the ice cutter unit rather than just replace the wire (already did that two years ago). Just received new part from Appliance pro parts and replaced the wire cutter. Machine is still not producing ice. Unit and ice plate is cold, water reservoir has filled but the circulating pump is not coming on. I've checked the thermometer and other wiring in control box and all appears normal. Any Suggestions?

Answer

Eric, If the unit fills but the pump is not starting then the most likely cause would be a pump. You will want to check the thermistor that sits on the bottom of the evaporator plate to make sure that it is not defective but the pump is the most likely cause of failure.
