This is an ice maker recirculation pump assembly. This part includes a motor and pump that sends water from the reservoir over the top of the evaporator plate. This forms the slab of ice that will then drop onto the cutting grid to make ice cubes. In the event that the appliance is not making ice, it could be because this part has gone bad. Some users report the pump becoming calcified and then no longer working. Whether this happens or not can depend upon the water quality. Unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet prior to attempting to replace this part. Wear work gloves for safety. This particular recirculation pump is compatible with ice cube makers that are manufactured by the Whirlpool, Kenmore, KitchenAid, and Scotsman brands. This part is sold individually and is sourced directly from the manufacturer.

For Whirlpool Ice Maker Recirculation Pump Assembly (Part Number: OEM18020001)

Jordan I. for Model Number KUIS15NRHS8

We have an older ice maker that does not have a water level sensor. Recently replaced the cutting grid - broken wire, etc. now it is cutting better, and now moving on to other issues that predate the grid problem. The ice is a little thin and not clear. I have run the clean cycle with the solution several times. The water reservoir fills fine to start the cycle, but empties as the ice makes on the evaporator tray. Toward the end of the cycle, it is dry pumping for quite a while. Without a water level sensor, I’m wondering whether this unit has a way to refill the reservoir during the cycle? If not, how does the pump know when to stop? Also, how is the ice released? Does it shut off due as a result of the temperature measured by the evaporator thermistor? Thanks

1 Answer

Hello Jordan, If the unit is running out of water during the cycle you either have an issue where the reservoir is losing water during the cycle or the board WP2304016 has an issue.

Ice maker stopped making ice. Said change filter and order cleaner. Ran the cleaning cycle 2 times with cleaner and changed the filter. Now all it does is fill the reservoir with water, And it won't stop, it over flows through the over flow hole and eventually it stops and the drain pump kicks on. Then it repeats the process. The order cleaner light stays lit. I replaced the circ pump thinking that was the issue. Part WPW10489122. What else can it be? Flow sensor?or the other circ pump under the reservoir? Thoughts?

1 Answer

Z28plus, The water fill is dictated by the control board and if it is overflowing then this would most likely be a control board issue.

At, Unfortunately, we do not have any information on this unit to be able to advise but sounds like if there is a water level sensor that it is bad if it is overflowing the reservoir.

Hi..My circa 2005 machine sat dormant for 6 years and Covid-19 gave me time to repair it again. Problem is..Recirculation Pump was bad, bought new oem and installed it - worked!.However, I still have odd, intermittent cycles that the pump sounds like it's running dry and water reservoir is low. If I top it off manually-pump quiet again. Check water inlet flow, -not great, but 6 cups per minute. Think this model has the Control Board that, during the Harvest part of cycle, the Water Valve "on" time is limited to 1 minute. Dunno if that plays a part. Again,..it does this about 1 out of 6 cycles. Puzzled....don't want to but another $140 Recirculation Pump if the "dry runs" are causing damage?

1 Answer

Sean S, Based on your information I would first check the installation and the position of the drain line, It sounds as if the machine is not holding the water for the complete cycles. The drain should be looped up and then back down to the drain so the water doesn't siphon out.

Hello Robert, check that the condenser fan is running and the condenser coils are clean. If the ice maker fills the water tank correctly, the recirculation pump runs and the evap tray is covered in water flow, the compressor and condenser fan start-up and run, after a short time the evap tray will get cold enough to start forming a sheet of ice, if the ice maker seems to just run and run and all are working then likely there is a sealed system problem and while the tray is cold it is not cold enough, this would require a technician to check and diagnose further.

Alan for Model Number GI15NDXTS0

I have an under counter Whirlpool Ice Maker It isn't making ice. I have ran the cleaning cycle and it pumps water over evaporator and physical cleaned water tube and reservoir. When it starts, the reservoir fills up with water properly, it just never starts pumping water up to the plate. After a period of time, drain pump comes on and pumps water out the drain. The freezing plate frosts over, so I know the refrigeration side is working have replaced circulation pump water level sensor and Evaporator Thermistor have power to everything but not pumping water over evaporator to make ice don't know what to do next

1 Answer

Alan, You will want to check to make sure that there is power getting to the circulation pump and if there is power to it then the issue will be the drain pump and if there is no power to it then this will be a faulty control board.

DC, as the circulation pump is getting 12VAC, it is receiving the proper voltage. You may want to check to ensure that there is no obstruction in the pump and that the pump installed matches to what your model calls for. The circulation pump that your model calls for is part number [WP2313628].

Alan, The water line is located right next to the refrigerant line and you will want to find a way to insulate the water line where it comes into the cabinet to keep it from freezing.

David, The most common cause for the icemaker to not fill the reservoir during operation would be a faulty water level sensor which would be part number WPW10548509.

Kristin, The first thing to check is in the reservoir to make sure that plate feed tube is connected properly to the pump assembly. If it is then the circulation pump will most likely be the issue with the unit.
