Steve for Model Number Whirlpool ED5FHExNL00 I have an Whirlpool UltraEase II (ED5FHEXNL00) with an ice maker that is not functioning and I see no evidence of ice/water in the tube. The main checks are for voltage across the 'N' & 'L' test points (yes - I have 118v) and then to short points 'T' & 'H' to run the motor and also activate the water valve. When I short T&H the motor does not run - nothing happens, so must I assume the ice maker is definitely bad? And then what about the valve? Does this confirm that it is also not getting a signal to activate the water valve? And any practical way to check the valve then to see if it is okay?
Answer Steve, You did have the freezer door switch plunger taped down, it shouldn't make a difference, but you may want to check again. When toy jump the T to H openings, you need to be sure you have made good contact with the internal points in the control head mechanism, and on occasion you may have to hold the jumper in position for a few seconds. With everything is still intact, if your careful, you can install you jumper in the L and V openings of the mechanism, this should supply 120 VAC to the fill valve, and it should activate and release the water into the ice maker, if the fill valve and wiring are intact.
