The Moisture Sensor is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. This part detects the moisture level in the clothing during the drying cycle, allowing the dryer to adjust the drying time accordingly.

Causes of a bad moisture sensor can include regular wear and tear, buildup of lint or residue, or physical damage.

Symptoms of a bad moisture sensor include:

  • Clothes taking longer to dry or coming out still damp
  • The dryer not stopping when clothes are dry
  • The dryer shutting off prematurely
  • Inconsistent drying results

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Donovan for Model Number wed7500gc

Dryer is working great on timed dry. Vent is venting very well. Checked for blockage everywhere including inside the dryer and through the vent tube. Teat works well. The problem is it does not stay on when using on any form of sensor load.I tried multiple load types and multiple types of clothes. 1 out of 20 loads actually ran. Other 19 loads ran only 3-10 minutes before shutting off. Please advise which part this could be. I dont want to buy and change wrong parts. Thank you much Donovan

Answer

Donovan, inside the drum at the bottom of the door should be two metal bars that are utilized to sense moisture in your clothes. Over time they will have a residue that collects over them. When they get this residue, it prevents the clothes from forming a bridge between the two bars and not allowing a small amount of voltage to pass from one bar to the other. This causes the dryer to sense that the clothes have no moisture in them, thereby causing the dryer to "think" that the clothes are dry. It is usually easiest to clean them using a cotton ball and rubbing alcohol. Once they are cleaned, allow the unit to sit for an hour with the door open to allow the rubbing alcohol to fully evaporate. This should allow your dryer to sense moisture properly and cause it to dry clothes properly.
